I've always thought Anti-Ritual were more in the line with the "blackened punk" movement represented by All Pigs Must Die, Kvelertak (who seem to really have popularized the thing), Young and in the Way etc... I guess I need to finally get around to listening to them after all.

You're right, I am mixing up my friends and their bands Hardcore, sludge and d-beat punk are other stickers they've picked up on the way. |
There do seem to be a lot of groups doing the entire "1980s hardcore punk meets 1990s black metal" hybrid thing right now, Danish practitioners including Hexis and Whorls. Maybe also Jackman and Sexdrome, but it seems like they're as rooted in Amphetamine Reptile-style noise rock as straightforwards hardcore...

![](http://www.whitedwarfrock.com/media/images/popup/kadavar-abrakadavar_02.jpg) I think what I like so much about Kadavar is that they're one of the few of the many retro psychedelic hard rock groups who actually sound like they could have been around in the 1960s or early 1970s. Most bands trying to revive that style usually filter it through 1980s and 1990s doom metal groups like Saint Vitus or Trouble, perhaps without being completely aware of it. By the way I find it pretty funny that there's songs titled Black Snake and Fire on this album, that aren't respectively covers of Atomic Rooster and The Jimi Hendrix Experience or The Crazy World of Arthur Brown!
