Dweezil managed to create tones that were similar to Frank's (using Frank's SG) when playing the Roxy & Elsewhere material. At the same time, his tones were also his own. Quite remarkable.

Yes...that's the one. It's also the "Hendrix" side to Zappa's playing that confuses people. He often adapted the inverted chord voicings used in Soul/R&B/Blues/Jazz as Hendrix did in Psychedelic music and he emulated a ghostly "Hendrix" style when he used a "Wah-Wah" It's not always easy to hear. He did respect Hendrix and so he added reflections of his playing within his memory. I could never get a closer look at Zappa's right hand picking technique than to see how his right hand was positioned. It appeared awkward. I couldn't figure out..if he was using his wrist to play rapid or his arm.

I'm trying to hold off ordering it until RBP is not on pre-order so I only have to place one order. But...I may not make it.

Just recently listened to 'Apostrophe'', and I've often wondered this : 'Father O'Blivion' starts to really cook with this awesome jam, and fades out rather quickly. Are there any 'full' versions where this jam goes on for more than a few bars ?? Don't understand why Frank decided to fade it just as it gets going....

It's fantastic!!! Lot's of improvised pieces. And the "Village Of The Sun/Echidna's Arf/Don't You Ever Wash That Thing" is great. Village has an intro and outro I haven't heard anywhere else. Echidna's Arf is obviously an early rendition, and is played slowly, but has extensive solos, as does Don't You Ever..." This may also be the best "Farther O'Blivion" released yet. I highly recommend this, RBP still says it will be released on or around today, but with it's history, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Starting a Zappa marathon, chronological, so that means starting with World's Greatest Sinner, Cucamonga, Joe's XMASage, etc... Here we go.

Not that I know of. I don't think it's available, maybe it'll wind up on an Apostrophe (') Project/Object... |

There's enough unreleased music on both MOFO and Lumpy Gravy to make a
nice tight 35-37 minute album from each box set, thankfully most of them
run in sequence. Plus, on LM, you get the original Lumpy Gravy, which
has music that's not on the more well-known version. I might just have
to make a playlist for each one (I don't really care about
instrumental/alternate takes of the songs from the respective album.)
for when I listen to these box sets in the future.
I'm loving this Zappadan (Zappa marathon between Dec 4 and Dec 21) |

I'd just like to say first, wow, 20 years. Sorely missed. I'd also like to recommend The Real Frank Zappa Book. A sample can be found here - http://www.amazon.com/Real-Frank-Zappa-Book/dp/0671705725#reader_0671705725

I wish I could enjoy a Zappa-fest, but my dear Mum passed away the other day - on the 4th of December
