Seems to be Tuesday again.
EPISODE 3: Guapo's Towers Open Fire ![]() Before Guapo was what we might describe as a Zeuhl band, they were, well, something else. It's hard to say for sure. Their first three or 4 albums are wild, noisy metallic rock that probably has no grounding whatsoever in music theory. The bass is slightly nasal, with scooped out mids and a healthy (or unhealthy, depending on the food group) crusty coating. There are even vocals ( ![]() By the way, (I think at least) this album is WAY better than the rating on this site would suggest... but if you look at who reviewed it, maybe it's rating isn't very surprising. Until next week, always and forever CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP. Edited by Triceratopsoil - February 16 2014 at 14:01 |

I like how you change the onomatopoeia with each new entry.

Interesting, this track is almost re-done in Empros (let me look out the title). It's interesting coz at the time I didn't like Geneva and at the time Empros came out I heard no connection to Geneva because I had completely forgotten how it sounds. |

Someday you might listen to Holger Czukay's first two solo albums. Gives the bass effects and use a completely different meaning ... ohhh merde ... wrong forum!

Actually this was very nice and enjoyable. I'll be checking out some more. Kinda nice to get the ears' wax cleaned off once in a while, and that was worth it! The Guapo stuff is interesting. Kinda reminds me of the early days Neu and Kraftwerk (before their hits) when it seemed like they were just experimenting with the effects and its sounds. Very different. Primus is an interesting band, that I have to give a better listen to. I have not enjoyed their work much, but I will admit I have not listened to it in detail. Most of it has been a snipet here or there and it's difficult to get a good listen about the band on that, for me. I'm seeing if I can add to this from my collection ... but it might just be a few pieces here and there. I keep thinking that if I look up Michael Rother, or Roedelius, and some of those folks, that more will show up as well, though not as recent as the examples you have demonstrated so far.

Yeah, sure. EPISODE 4: Jean Louis' Morse ![]() It's jazz, but not as we know it. Long a Shred Room favourite, Jean Louis is a 3-piece band consisting of trumpet, bass and drums. The instruments are so swaddled in effects that it's often difficult to identify which is which. Bassist Joachim Florent gets down and dirty, and grooves out more than I would ever think a white man can. Where their debut is smoother and more hypnotizing, their sophomore effort Morse is grungy, ugly and pretty much all over the map. I was about to say instrumental, but a dog sings some on this album. Enjoy. p.s. somebody tell Rob that it's inappropriate for a prog reviewer with 20x weighting to give out 1 stars willy-nilly to things he has only heard once Edited by Triceratopsoil - February 17 2014 at 15:37 |
