I personally liked "The Flaming Lips inherit the mantle of playful prog created by Peter Gabriel-era Genesis." It seems like they just wikipedia'd "Prog Rock" and then copy + pasted in names of random bands to compare their entries to.

Overall this was pretty silly. LOL

The media needs to know that Radiohead is NOT the definition of prog.

Post rock (and math rock) are very much prog, just not in the 70s sense of the word. They might not be with these insane lines and baroque influences don't mean they're not prog. Many of the bands are as experimental if not even more experimental, and yes, literally progressive, than 70s bands.
And Mars Volta are OK, no need to exaggerate...

There's more modern music that's bad than good.

If thats what people think modern prog is then no wonder people dont like prog from the present.

Again, NO! Well yes. There is more bad music than good music IN EVERY DECADE. I think we're in a great time in music (yes there's crap, and a lot of it but so it was in every other decade). But with that there's some of the most innovative and interesting music to have come out. So don't think this period sucks, people will look back and wish they were in where we are now.

I actually thought that was like saying that merde a la carte, is as good, if not better than escargot ... or anchovies ... not on a pizza, or as an apperif ... but as an entree!

I would like to feed that stuff to Guillermo Puertas ... see if he will buy that instead of KC, or ELP ... bet you he wouldn't! But what he cares .. he's a rich don't give a cahoot anyway!

And you think that you can tell a behemoth that he is stupid and doesn't even know what the word means, or what kinda music Radiohead is?

Remember ... that's the same conglomerate that makes money off sales by Radiohead ... before you say anything that might hurt!

Hi,

Just remember one thing ... about advertising ... and it's called the "deep throat syndromme" ... if you want to kill something, the best thing you can do is drop it, and no talk about it! ... so everytime we say something we're giving those folks more credence than they are worth ...

There are times I wish I were an admin ... I might just delete these posts! ... until WE get recognition for our work from them!

Again, we here at PA, should be the ambassadors for the medium and the music ... not someone that can just write some piddly little crap about nothing and not even be able to describe the music, without using words that have pretty much nothing to do with the band, but I'm not sure there is enough intelligence to question what was written ... after all ... MSN is bigger than us!

Its seems that the easy thing for these so called music experts to do lately, is tag anything non-radio friendly as "neo, prog, mathematics..." The hope is that one of these reporters will become the next music genre genius.....Explaining and using these terms to all the pop world as though it is something NEW.

I do listen to C&C and I like the first 3 albums very much........All the other bands listed I don't think I have heard anything by them.

IMO they're prog-related at best. I think they deserve the 'prog' title as much as Green Day or My Chemical Romance do, in that they've incorporated prog elements in their music, but not enough to be considered prog.

I haven't heard of a lot the bands they talked about, but at least they mentioned Oceansize.  That was a plus.

Well the article at least mentioned my two favorite bands in the world right now which are Sigur Ros and Radiohead, so kudos to them. I'm ashamed that they didn't mention Porcupine Tree, Ulver, or any number of prog metal guys (Queensryche = 21st Century? Come on!)

Lol... Tame Impala are a 21st century Prog band? Hell, forget about Porcupine Tree kids, Tame Impala are dominating that genre. Also... to the guy who insists that C&C use vocal tuning and stabilisation programs... uhh, good luck with that.
