9: Porcupine Tree - The Incident

Cry

What.... are you upset that I can get enjoyment from an album that keeps its doors closed for you? Tongue

Maybe you're thinking about the concert too. I would probably find it nicer than the album myself. Wink

Actually, the concert provided my first audition of the album and I didn't like it much, it was very awkward. Maybe it happened because I was expecting something different, I don't know.

It was only when I started to listen the album on the studio recording that I started to like it. And it happened fast and totally. Now it's my favourite PT album, right up with Lightbulb Sun.

You're not alone. The Incident is right up there with my fave PT albums ever. It's very good IMO.
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

Last.fm is doing a "best of 2009" bands showdown, based on the numbers of track scrobbles. It's very interesting, check it out: http://www.last.fm/bestof/2009/chart/25

These are the bands tagged "progressive rock" who appear in that chart: http://www.last.fm/bestof/2009/tag/progressive%20rock

I've had a relatively quiet year thus far, and Transatlantic CD will be a birthday present later in the month.

Of 2009, highlights are really Osatara by Wishing Tree, but the real gem was the exceptional Frequency by IQ, which has rarely been off the MP3 player since I got it.

Wow, some of your lists of "favourites" are almost like lists of the year's realeases! Such long lists!

I probably bought only about 12-15 new prog albums this year (a lot for me!)  and my top three most definitely are....................

The Mars Volta - Octehedron
Demians - Building an Empire
Steve Thorne - Into the Ether

And I didn't think I'd be saying that come the end of the year! Big surprises, stunning albums!

There have (for me) been an awful lot of very average/bland albums this year but........
Biggest disapointments for me were - Muse & Porcupine Tree........... but maybe in my anticipation I had them too big in my mind before I heard them.  I'll try them again with fresh ears in the new year.

Mono Hymn to the Immortal Wind

     And recently:

Big Big Train The Underfall Yard

The Tangent Down and Out in London and Paris

Mindflower Little Enchanted Void
