Mostly used LPs, some used CDs, some new CDs.
But most of my "new" music is downloaded. With the higher bit rate offerings now available, and the much better pricing, added to the fact that I can burn the music to a CD, and many a download now includes cover art, and even booklets (Ostara is a perfect example), I see no reason to pay twice (or more) as much to get the same "physical" product.

Indeed, I would already have the new IQ, but the album is not available for download in or from Canada.

I'm with you on that.

I'll buy a download if I must.  I've got Porcupine Tree's Futile.  It came with album cover art so I made my own hard copy.  I did pay for In Rainbows but wound up buying a hard copy.  I got Marillion's Happiness for free and bought the hard copies later.  Same deal with NIN's The Slip.  Someone linked me to what I believe was an illegal download of Insurgentes in advance of it being available for purchase, bought the hard copy, too.  Have to do right by the artist.

I mainly download stuff these days.  I occasionally buy CD's and I buy the odd second hand vinyl.  I have no attachment to CD's as I've always hated them really- the only good bit being you don't have to turn them over - vinyl is better in every way.  I am not bothered about the artwork as it's just about always rubbish on CD.

But if I like something I'm still (always have been ) too impatient to wait for the CD either from a real shop or ordering on line.  I WANT IT NOW! Big smile

Both. Although someday (when I have my own disposable income) I'd like to replace all the downloads with their respective physical CDs.

Oh wait, I'm working part-time over the summer and while going to school. I guess I do! Big smile

Mainly legal downloads from Amazon or band sites these days. I don't get hung up on the hard copy - the album is still mine even though it is on the PC and the artists get their royalties. I also find the MP3 quality far superior.

Since coming to this site I have also started listening to a lot more music, much of it new, via Last FM. I simply cannot afford to buy all the music I want with a young family, and this is a great way of listening while I work or relax.

Dammit, I just knocked off my new Phideaux on to a carpeted wood floor and wouldn't you know it, the "jewel" case is all cracked up.  It didn't even fall that far.  Man I hate those things.

Of course I buy CDs! Big smile
Yes, it's true, it's getting hard to buy a CD player but you can put all your CDs in your computer and put the on a iPod or any MP3 player as well.

It's getting hard to buy a CD player?  See that black box under my CD shelving?  It's my first player.  All it does is play a single CD at a time.  I'd love to find it a good home.Big smile

I wish that Amazon offered MP3 downloads outside of the U.S or U.K. ... And to think that we're right between the two.,

I used  to download a lot, now I don't any more, I took a time-out for that
I do want to know what I will be buying on cd, and I bought a lot of cd's as a result of downloading
I probably bought more as a result of that than I ever did before
