Wow, hell of a job Eric.  Keep up the good work.  I really need to get myself into shape and shed at least 30 pounds, nothing but laziness and apathy is holding me back.

Thanks, Patrick. I really implore people to take action and drop some weight before a doctor tells you that you either have to, or that it's too late.

I think what makes me a little torqued is since we've had the fitness center open up at work, hardly anyone takes advantage of it. It's free to use and they have really good equipment and private showers--one could easily work it in on their lunch hour. We have a guy who easily tips the scale at 400+. He's in his early 30's and will probably suffer his first heart attack before he's 40. It's actually quite sad, but he's not being proactive. Me and only a handful of people at the office utilize a free gym that would normally run us about $50 a month.

Hate to sound like a Nike commercial, but just do it.

Beer? And cheesecake? Dude, don't you have a quart of milk with which to wash it down? Face is puckering just thinking about it. LOL

I actually don't eat sweets often at all.  This is leftover from Mother's Day, so I've been eating a sliver each night (my wife has the sweet tooth).

But man, I like beer. Smile

My wife & I just bought bikes whith which we have been riding to work rather than driving ...I haven't noticed any changes in weight yet (though others have commented on me looking thinner) but it certainly wears me out! I'm hoping that after a few months of biking to work I'll notice some results...

I have a serious problem losing weight. I have exercise & heat induced asthma, so I can't do anything too strenuous, but biking isn't bothering me at all. I eat 100% vegan & never take in more than 1000 calories a day, but my bmi has been at 36 for the past 15 years...I have only eaten a vegetarian diet for 7 of those years, but you'd think there would be some change Ermm

As do I, but with a good cheeseburger or steak.

Cut the soda out. All that high fructose corn syrup just adds the pounds on. I dropped 25 lbs by not drinking soda anymore. No exercise. Just walking during my work hours.

About 16 months ago I weighed 135 kg's. 6ft1 in height, BMI off the chart. Now I am 108 kg's. There is no secret, every individual has a different metabolism. For me I find as I get older my metabolism is grinding to a halt so I need less fuel to burn. Not for the first time stopped eating meat apart from fish ( funny cos I don't miss meat either) I think it stuffs up digestion. The other really bad stuff is pizza, rice, cereals, pa.stas in excess. Sure this is all relating to me only but I find a diet with lots of fish, veg, fruit, tons and tons of chili ( Natures energy boost) and oh yes, sadly I have virtually stopped drinking, make for healthy living. AND........I exercise 7 days a week ( good natural psychological boost)

I am one of those guys who puts weight on just seeing a BK billboardCry But the key is activity and moderation. I have two food vices - cheese and olive oil. Even after 14 months of a strict regimen if I go wayward just one week ( few drinks, pizza or two) the scales will not lie and I'll bounce up between 3-6 kgs. Wouldn't it be great if spag bol made you lose weight and lettuce leaves gain weight and why the hell shouldn't it work the other way around. There is no justice in this worldSmile

I honestly find that hard to believe.

http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.html

Even if you don't work out at all, your body needs around 2000 kcal a day. Are you *really* sure about that caloric intake?

Obviously one first step would be to not simply every snack or meal that's mentioned in a thread about losing weight ... Tongue

I got a bit fat and doubled chin through a couple years of drinking hard and eating awfully (I call it my Elvis period).I've lost the obvious weight but am still beer bellied. As i'm not very fit would you suggest situps or a run of some sort (or both obviously) Because it's just beer belly which is the problem and I'm quite anti-gym.

^ you could try exercising your chin by raising a pint of scrumpy with your teeth....or enjoy your form :-)

Seriously beer bellies are virually impossible to get rid of.....

I've been slightly overweight most of my life - nothing serious as such, I'm around 175 cm and ~ 86kg. My problem is mainly the fact that I don't eat the way I should. I can go all day without eating anything (I'm often so preoccupied by other things that I actually forget to eat!), but whenever I do eat something, I eat quickly and too much.

On top of that, I tend to drink too much coca-cola and the like, which is not doing me any favors, I'm sure. I've been thinking about cutting the sodas out, but it's not going to be easy as I have this bizarre addiction to carbonic acid. Perhaps I ought to turn to carbonated water. Anyway, good luck to all of you trying to lose weight, I hope we all succeed.

There's also diet coke ... I never drink soda with real sugar in it. You could argue that it didn't help me much (like I said above, I'm really overweight), but on the other hand I don't want to know how much I weighed if I also had those calories on top of my ordinary intake.Wink
