Does Planet Caravan fit on Paranoid ? Or, does Changes fit on Volume 4 ?
| Changes does not, there is nothing redeemable about that song. Planet Caravan does, because Iron Man has a much bigger impact when coming after a soft mellow number.

Actually planet Caravan is one of my favourite Sabbath tracks. Sometimes I have a hard time convincing younger guys that this is actually a Sabbath number I agree with Toaster Mantis on Changes, nothing redeemable. It`s in the slack key of C ( which means no black keys ). I`ve always skipped it. Laguna Sunrise was written by Iommi when he was taking a break from all the mayhem going on during the recording of Vol 4. It was probably influenced by brooding walks along Laguna Beach. It definitely fits in better than Changes.

Ok, whats so bad about More Fool Me? It's a sweet song with a sweet melody. I think it's there on purpose, because everything around it is such long complex structures. It's suppose to serve as a nice simple break, which I think it does quite nicely. Does every song really need to be the most complex song the band can come up with in order to be enjoyable? That's not to say I support an artist selling out or anything, but every once in a while, it can be nice.

It sounds like something from a spaghetti western, which makes it okay in my book.

This is a slightly skewed approach to the topic but if you look at the Beatles White Album every song seems out of place and I believe that is a lot of it's charm. I think a lot of bands have many characteristics and approaches but often after setting into a particular style they are reluctant to stir the pot or add something that doesn't immediately fit with their fan base. I think sometimes even if a quirky song is not great it serves to give an album more variety and sometimes it also helps the listener have a more rounded appreciation of an artist.

Trial of Tears on Dream Theaters FIF, great tune while the rest of the album was sort of lacking.
Same deal for Only a Matter of Time on When Dream and Day Unite. The album was sort of bland but that song was great [ as well as Ytsejam ] and Kevin's lyrics were awesome.

"The Brazilian" and "Domino" on Invisible Touch by Geneis, great songs on a generally bad album.

Dude, the topic was Good songs that feel out of place. More fool Me getting mentioned just means it's a good song, nothing wrong with that. But the lack of utter complexity and the other singer does make it different to the other songs.

Back to more KC bashing--I always liked the Projeckt spin-offs, but Heaven and Earth stuck on to the end of The Construcktion of Light just feels wrong.

Good call, love that track...and like someone else stated, it's GOOD out of place songs on albums...aint no bashing necessary!

Have to agree with that, appalling interruption to the album.
Radio Waves on RW's Radio Kaos, musically different to the rest of the album

Not particularly a brilliant song but "Industrial Disease" does not fit on Dire Straits' Telegraph Road album.

Well at least they had the sense to put all those improvs on a single Disc Thrakattak. I actually love that album. I put it on to drive people nuts.

Paper lies off brave by Marillion. Doesn't really fit the whole theme of the album.

"Benny the Bouncer"and "Still... you turn me on" from "Brain Salad Surgery" - ELP, decent songs, good album but they just break the album.

Oh I agree with this. That's what puts the album down a mark for me, to be honest. I like the track but it doesn't fit the album to my ears.
