^yea, I agree completely about Lewis Black...he's probably my all-time favorite because he's very intelligent and politically aware, as well as funny.  I'm not familiar with Bill Hicks (I'll fix that).
 
The thing about Dane Cook's act is that it's so juvenile and primitive that it sometimes appeals to the same sense as Family Guy, South Park, or the Simpsons.  I get a kick out of how spastic he is...flipping out about the Kool Aid guy or public restrooms or whatever else.

Another who in my opinion warrants a mention is Emo Phillips:



He'd calmed his act (and look) down a lot in recent years, and his skewed take on life & his on stage persona puts some off (definitely an aquired taste), but he hits the spot with me every time.
