I'll go against the flow and vote for Santana's magnificent "Abraxas", which to my mind is as prog as many albums featured on this site, and possibly more. Then, of course, I'd mention "Caravanserai" and Kansas' two masterpieces (of which "Leftoverture" is my favourite).

If you've never heard Santana's "Caravanserai" then you are missing a real treat. It's more jazz fusion than anything else but definitely progressive in its use of time signatures and adventurous arranging. Very unique.

You did miss a lot that's more obviously prog, e.g. Happy The Man or Cathedral (Stained Glass Stories is top class).

Ah yes. My sentiments exactly! I would choose Cathedral. Awesome prog rock.
Also, where is Miles Davis' Bitches' Brew or Yezda Urfa?

Are you kidding me? No Happy the Man????!!!!!! Oh the injustice! ANd most of the groups listed aren't even really prog. What about Cathedral, Pentwater, Oho, Ethos, Mirthranidir, Grits, Babylon, Lift, Maelstrom, Easter Island,Pre, Fireballet, Starcastle, Pavlov's Dog, the Muffins,Yezda Urfa, October, Quill,Netherworld, the list goes on and on.

Birds of Fire - and though Inner Mounting Flame is getting more votes here, Birds of Fire is higher in PA. (So if you really prefer Inner Mounting Flame, write a review!)
