Ambient soul pop with elements of hip hop, jazz and a dash of punk mix it up and flow on this spirited ascension:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/norinebraun5 Jazz influences combined with a willing mix of the esoteric, metaphysical, folk and soft rock make Crow an eclectic companion: http://cdbaby.com/cd/norinebraun3 |

Suspyre - A Great Divide (2007)
Great prog metal released earlier this year - includes a rich variety of styles, from Dream Theater style melodic prog to Symphony X style neoclassical power metal, and some Avant-Garde bits too. |

# CREDIT or DEBIT CARDS: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover # OTHER: PayPal, check, money order, international money order, cash, >chocolate<. Seriously, what kind of site is this? i feel very compelled to buy from them, if only for the humour that they seem to to possess, but there is nothing there i know or have even heard of! |

^ so none of the albums mentioned in this thread have sparked your interest? Did you notice that lengthy, high quality samples are available for all the albums?
CDBaby.com is a website which specializes in independent artists ... most albums are self produced by the artists, and most of the money you pay for the albums goes directly to the artists. |

By the way, what exactly does "no plastic" mean?

Hi Evans.
Like Mike said, there are very good albums here, by bands who try to get a break on their own. The obscurity of it doesn't always mean it's not any good.
I'll give you one example - I posted here about an album by a band (or rather side project) called C'est Mortel and this album, is not only an excellent example of progressive rock (or even metal), but unjustifiably unknown and disregarded - http://cdbaby.com/cd/cestmortel
There are more of course.
Like you said, there's this section - http://cdbaby.com/sale which has nice albums for cheap.
I do most of my album purchases online and while this is not my main soruce of purchase (it's usually Greg Walker, Wayside/Cuneiform, Laser's Edge/Ken Golden, Big Balloon which has closed, Kinesis, Of Sound Mind, The End Records, ReR, Indie Jazz and others) but CD Baby is a good place to look for those less exposed musicians/bands. There are good gems to be found.
There's also the convenient genre classification in there which helps scout for music.
Have fun

But, once again, is "without plastic" recommended? Does that mean i will just get the discs with a piece of paper stuck in between or what ? |

^ "no plastic" means that you'll get the regular CD without the jewel case. You'll get the disc itself, booklet and paper inlay (don't know if this is the right word) ... you just need an empty jewel case to complete the CD. this simply reduces shipping cost.

Two excellent blasts from
the past: Lancaster and Lumley's Marscape and Peter and the Wolf (which
was new to me.) Also all of Phideaux's catalog except Chupacambras,
which I will get around to soon.

Guys- Check out this band: http://cdbaby.com/cd/helmetofgnats
One of the best instrumental purchases I've found online. I think many of you will dig it. Also, these guys intrigue me: http://cdbaby.com/cd/gostaberlingssaga And this band, who I befriended on myspace: http://cdbaby.com/cd/abigailsghost And, a shameless self promotion: http://cdbaby.com/cd/milestomars This is my band. Not prog, but spacey and melodic enough that many may enjoy from PA (at least, I hope!). I love CD Baby! And thanks for the Ambo recommendation: http://cdbaby.com/cd/ambo Very cool stuff!! |

I have heard of Helmet of Gnats but haven't picked that one up yet. I do have the Abigail's Ghost album called Selling Insincerity. Wonderful album - a must have for all PT fans. edit: The Helmet of Gnats album has a great fusion jazz sound - Brand X/Mahavishnu like. Edited by rushaholic - November 25 2007 at 10:25 |

CD Baby's a wonderful company. They're extremely artist-oriented, and there's a great community of artists there that helps each other.
Plus, you can find all kinds of weird music there, like this: http://cdbaby.com/cd/specimen372 |
