I understand that not everyone has the same likes and preferences in music so I'm not too bothered with it and I guess its my fault since I clicked on the thread.

Best wishes to everyone and I hope that everyone can appreciate every band/genre mentioned sooner or later.Smile

The Mars Volta for me. This band just don't click on me, they're maybe too crazy sometimes and boring IMO ... I don't get them.

(I haven't heard ANYTHING of Tool)

A lot of people have mentioned VDGG already, and unfortunately I must add myself to the list.

I actually bought their four highest-rated albums on this site, since they seemed so highly recommended,  but I just can't get into them no matter how hard I try.

Also, like NecroManiac, I appreciate CTTE but otherwise can't get into Yes. I can't get past my general dislike of the vocals and lyrics. Both of those combine to make most of their stuff unlistenable to me.

It's a little odd that I can't listen to Jon Anderson, since Cedric, Geddy, and other harshly grating vocalists are actually some of my favorite singers.

Kayo Dot, I tried their last one, but it doesn't want to click...Then I don't get Zeuhl and Experimental Prog also. In general "random" "noises" put me off. Very experimental doesn't go well with me. (I also don't like "modern" classical music, e.g. Schoenberg or Alban Berg)

Yep, I sincerely share your centimentsHug These threads sadden me to no end.

I love every band mentioned here... I guess that makes me super open minded towards prog. Butto be fair, I can't see what's attractive in punk/emo. So you can say I don't get those.

Neil Morse Solo.

I really liked Spock's Beard but now that he is making overtly religious music I am not interested in being preached at. I don't mind more subtle lyrics but the titles are enough to put me off. Good luck to him, I am sure he is happy but I feel disinclined to listen to his new stuff. The main problem is he took Spocks Beard's interesting music with him...
Allomerus. Music with progressive intent.

I don't know why exactly, since I like prog and can tolerate punk (and actually like some of it) and other harder prog.  I think it's the vocalist, I can't stand him, but even the instrumental parts don't do too much for me.  I've only heard De-Loused, and I'd give it 3 stars at best.

I agree. I bought Frances the Mute, and I just don't like it that much. Another band I don't think I'll like that much is Dredg. I bought Catch Without Arms and I just find it so boring. I like it for about 3 tracks and then it all starts to sound the same to me.

Oh yeah, and Cynic. I like a LOT of metal, but I they just don't stir up any emotion whatsoever.

There is no band I want to get to like but just can't. After 30+ years of listening to prog (I started as a little kid) I think I know where my tastes lie (and I am not afraid of extremely experimental stuff). Some things just dont interest me, and I can usually tell whether there is anything of interest for me in a certain music on first listening, even if I don't immediately like it.

The Mars Volta - though some say the latest is almost listenable, unlike the first two.
VDGG - the music can be great at times but Hamill's vocals destroy it for me.
Dillinger Escape Plan - is that musc?
King Crimson - I just can't see anything that good about them, despite repeated listens.

I used to hate Opeth and Dream Theater but they have grown on me. I actually really like Opeth (despite the growls) and I can apppreciate DT's musical prowess despite their composition skills being rather limited.

I agree with you on this one. I was quite dissapointed to hear that Morse had left SB. I figured I ought to see why he left the band, to see what he was doing by himself that he couldn't do with SB. When I got '?' I immediately saw why he left the band.. I think that the music is alright, but I can't get into the lyrics, at all.

I'm unsure wheter I will ever get into Tool. I want to, but I haven't managed to do it yet. I have a hard time getting into Pain of Salvation aswell. However, I dislike their style too much to bother listening to Be as many times as I ought to. They get on my nerves, and I'm quite happy not getting them anyways.

Radiohead-I like some of The Bends but they mostly leave me feeling depressed. Thom Yorke sings like he's about to commit suicide and is not the reason why I enjoy listening to music.

Same goes with VDGG and Peter Hammill.
