Procrastination paralyzing me
Wanting me dead
These obsessions that keep haunting me

  • The OP didn't ask anyone to make comparisons
  • by saying DT or JT, I'm guessing he's asking who you like better
What I'm getting at is that if someone asked me what I like better, Orange Juice or Science Fiction Novels, I would be able to answer him, after some thought.  It might be a stupid question, but if he's interested, I'll answer him.Disassociate yourselves from your own interpretations of his question and just answer it, or don't, but I don't see the need to pull it apart.

Someone has to say something about it and i add, that if you think that question is stupid, just DONT reply! It is so simple!
Someone wanted to see what band do you prefer to listen. Is it that weird?

EDIT : I Voted for JT by the way. I can't stand Dream Theater...

Sorry, but I find it completely stupid (Sorry Mandrake) you can only compare things at leasst remotely similar.

DT bores me terribly, but that's not the point:

1.- Jethro Tull: Folk/Symph countryside music with blues influences, based in band play rather than in endless solos, strongly melodical from the 70's (At least their peak).

2.- Dream Theater: Metal, Metal and more Metal, endless solos, lack of melody in most of the cases, more references...Metal and endless solos.

It's not like comparing apples and oranges, because both are fruits, it's like comparing oranges and boilling water or apples and earthquakes.

I agree with Ivan on all counts. They're two completely different bands. Now, for instance, comparing Tull with Traffic would have made sense - they're both classed as Prog Folk, and they both make use of the flute. Obviously, on this forum and elsewhere there are people who like both JT and DT, but this doesn't stop them being completely different.

BTW, I voted for JT (surprise, surprise...Wink). Tomorrow I'm going to see them live in my home town of Rome. I can hardly wait, though it'll be the third time for me. Expect a report!

For me, both of these bands are indispensible in their own way.

The mighty Tull - it's a total no brainer. Comparing one of the most original bands in the genre with one of the most derivative is extremely pointless, but what the hell.

Tull, of course. First Dream Theater has to decide its genre and focus their composition on this genre. Prog Metal doesn't need to be 5 metal songs and 3 prog songs in an album.
