Now the thing is both these Cd`s in question are great but the deciding factor for Misplaced Childhood having the edge lies in Mosley being the  drummer ...  and Misplaced Childhood seems a more consistent album overall . Basically anybody who says Script is better isn`t hearing what I hear when I play these albums.  Misplaced is superior in every way including its production   Approve

LOL It's always funny when we get someone 'stating a fact' instead of an opinion.
I too, know Marillion, having been a big fan since Script came out.
And I obviously hear things differently. Script has superior songs. And a better atmosphere.
(Now I am stating facts!) LOL

Of course, this is really all personal opinion, as it should be.
Yes script is great but nowhere near as perfect as misplaced childhood , don`t make me laugh LOL

Marillion made a big improvement to their musicality the moment Fugazi came out with Ian Mosley behind the kit even Rothery started sounding more professional  the whole band just sounded more professional ... Mick pointer was an acceptable drummer on Script  that said Fish  has been quoted in saying" Mick Pointer was an amature who got lucky"

what I consider as "better" always involves some musical theory in the decision and some artististic merit both need to join someplace in the middle,  unfortunately script fell short in many ways , that said Script did have atmosphere and in many ways looking back I see it as Fish`s first solo album not so much a Marillion album.    When I was a teenager I got into "Script" later on  I discovered Peter Gabriel's Genesis and I had a few questions ? (could my beloved Marillion be only a CLONE ? .... SHOCK assassing !!!!) .. it wasn`t till Fugazi that Marillion were  strong enough to stand up alone without the Genesis clone tag (in my book)  and become an "A" grade example of  Prog because their musicality had grown so much they just couldn`t be denied anymore over a small clone issue ...  before then they were kind amaturish  as Fish indicated. Just  watch recital of the script then watch LIVE FROM LORELEY you will see what I`m saying is true !  Loreley really is a great concert and that's not by accident its because Marillion had found what was theirs by that stage  they had their sound perfected they even had their stage presence and image worked out better  Wink  Back in the "script" days Marillion (not Fish  he's always been a great performer) looked  uncomfortable performing live.

All the stuff I have said culminates into some very good reasons why Misplaced Childhood is infact a better Album than Script even if Script has got some wonderful songs on it I must confess the song  "Script For a Jesters Tear" is amongst Marillion's finest ever !  and Forgotten sons is one of the best (political) prog songs around  though Fish maintains its not political   "Minister Minister care for your children ! "

I`m often amused with some peoples "opinions" around here in fact I find it a little bit scary

Ok, don't jump down my throat anyone...... but I am seeing some rough divides here and it's interesting......
(these rules are NOT hard and fast...ok?)

There are two rough divisions,

Those who were 'there' at the time

    .V.

Those who bought the album retrospectively

It seems generally speaking that if you were there once more in the playground of the empty hearts way beack in '83 then Script is your winner, and if you have been hearing them since, then MC is more likely the winner.

There is a rough divide also between those who sense music in a 'scientific' or 'mathematical' way .V. those of you who feel the emotional values, the anguish more than the missing cymbal or bass note.......

But lets face it, if you are in your late thirties/40-ish now you were a teen when it was released (SCRIPT)...... mind boggling! It was a good time to be a teen!(i know , I was there!) But slightly older/younger and you would've reacted quite differently to the lyrical values, to the passion.... For those of you who say this album is musically complex...... POPPYCOCK! What it does however, is tug at and give recognition to a whole heap angst and turmoil within ourselves, but that is mainly in the vocal (either lyric OR vocal style) It's not a complex album, but it is a SPECIAL album!

I really enjoy BOTH albums, I saw Fish do MC twice on that tour, and I am really looking forward to Script (tomorrow!) Script is definitely the winner for me though!

I was 16 years and 7 months old when I bought Script on August,1,2003. I suffered from an unmutual love. I wrote my own songs (and still do) and love GENESIS(and still do ). Script is my favourite album of all time(and still does!!!).MC is very good and almost excellent in its dark atmosphere(Berlin Wall and etc...)

Script, but not the blowout that many people have claimed it to be.  Misplaced is great too.

Definitely Misplaced Childhood for me. Both are indisputably great albums, but Misplaced Childhood is far more polished to my ears and there's by now a clear identity of their own- even more so on 'Clutching At Straws', my personal favourite.
