1) LDF - Forse Le Luciolle Non Si Amano Piu

2) PFM - Impressioni di Settembre

3) Metamorfosi - Spacciatore Di Droga

4) Celeste - Principe Di Un Giornio

5) QVL - Villa Doria Pamphilli

Now approaching 50 Italian Prog albums thanks to these gems ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

My first Italian prog album was PFM Storia di un Minuto. I loved it so much that it was soon joined by Per un Amico and L'isola Di Niente. In addition to PFM, I love Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra, and Il Rovescio Della Medaglia's Contaminazione. Celeste's Principe di un Giorno is a bit mellow, but has some gorgeous mellotron on it. I'm now eagerly awaiting Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso's Darwin which I bought on ebay.

that was my fault... I wasn't specific at first with the thread title... though always fun to see the responces when people don't read the past posts.

Same for me. I started with "Per un amico", liked a more experimantal side with "Area/Crac".

I do love "Picchio dal pozzo", i enjoy "Dedalus" and "Saint just".

The only Italian prog band i'm really into is PFM... well, it's almost the only Italian band i listen to, actually. I usually hate Italian music (maybe 'cause I'm Italian too...) but Pfm is really great, with beautiful music and not ordinary lyrics... I saw them live a week ago (more or less) with Patti Smith and, although they played mostly De Andrč's stuff, they were just incredible! They didn't play "Dove... Quando..", unfortunately...

I've been listening to Italian prog for more than twenty years now... I can't remember the first album I listened to... probably Le Orme "Florian" and "PFM + De Andrč in concerto"... It was 1979 and I was just a child discovering music from older friends...

3 songs in particular grabbed me...

Cella - RDM (was my first purchase.. love that album)
Prologo - QVL
L' Isola di Niente - PFM  (once I heard the choral opening... I knew I had found my latest musical passion)

have now run through all the major's by the majors.... now looking for lesser known gems....

I LOVe Italian prog hahahhaha

Maggio by Le Orme is the song that started it for me.

PFM's "Storia di un Minuto," which I only found after discovering this site some weeks back. After that I got Locanda Delle Fate's album and Museo Rosenbach's "Zarathustra." Only wish I could buy it all more easily

the first Italian albums I heard were Balletto y Bronzo - Ys, PFM's second, Banco's Darwin and Franco Battiano's Fetus, that was about 1976 or 1977, cant remember the order but those were my first experiences with Itaprog.

Of all the Italian albums I have heard, the one's that are indespensible(or I still play occasionally) are....

Celeste - Principe di Giorno
Il Volo - Essere, o non essere!
Luciano Basso - Voci
Picchio dal Pozzo - same
Sensations Fix - Portable Madness
Alphataurus - same

Maybe due to our common Latin roots or some good souls at the recording companies or any other reason we had here a plethora of Italian prog albums since mid-70s... and a legion of fans!

However, I'm sure that I heard (and liked) something from Le Orme prior to this 'invasion'. Consciously, I guess that my first hearing and passion related to Italian prog was 'Dove... Quando... (parte 1)' - the beginning is simply amazing!

In the show they did here, last year (2005) they extended this beginning to a really protophony with more than 3 minutes; a fantastic piece. SPLENDID!

Celeste: Principe Di Giorno
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso: Io Sono Nato Libero

Followed by PFM: 'Storia di un Minuto' and then more or less the rest. Four years ago. Got hooked.

Favorite album is Banco's 'Darwin'. Also love: Museo Rosenbach, Pierrot Lunaire (Gudrun), Biglietto per L'Inferno (same), Picchio dal Pozzo (same), PFM, Osanna (Palepoli), Le Orme, Metamorfosi (Inferno)...

The only italian album considered a classic I can't stand is 'Locanda Della Fate's only album. Sounds like a bad copy of Genesis to me. I see a lot of you people here with impeccable taste, place it among, and even above most of my other favorites.
