I'm just getting depressed while listening to Alternative 4... But Judgment is still the most depressing album I have ever heard...

Long live the Cavanagh brothers and co.!

well i think dream theater plays too much notes...

i think a solo with 56722565698 notes per second is ony to impress

but they have great music in general

i prefer pain of salvation......

Psychotic Waltz is unmatched to this very day in terms of creativity, so it get's my vote, even I also could vote some of the other listed bands, like Dream Theater, Opeth, Tool, Queensryche or Fates Warning.

Ayreon is rather a project than a real band, because Arjen Lucassen writes all the music himself and just works with guest musicians.

Riverside is to me not a metal band, they should be categorized as psychedelic/space rock here. Second Life Syndrome has some clear "metal moments", but the spacy, emotional atmosphere is very dominant and overshadows all metal relates.

Go Symphony X, they are very unique in their

Music concepts, this is why I love them so.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum... what a fabulous experimental/metal band!  Thanks to make me remember them! ^^

I think they're phenomenal as well (see them live if you can!). I don't understand why they're considered metal, however. I wouldn't consider them metal any more than I'd consider The Residents metal.

SGM isn't metal.

They are avant prog, but not progressive metal.

I've said "Experimental/metal band" cause they have some hard pieces (I love them all ^^).  But I recognize my mistake, it's much more an Experimental/avant-gardiste band.

note: I think the Rez are very far from metal melodic, much more than SGM can be.
