RADIOHEAD ARE NOT PROG!!!

SO WHAT????

The title of this thread is not "Which is the best PROG album from 1990 or later".

AND THEY HAVE MORE THAN OCCASIONAL PROG ELEMENTS FOR YOUR INFORMATION!!!!

Much of "The Bends", almost all of "OK Computer", and CERTAINLY all of "Kid A" are as prog as it gets these days.

You don't see them as prog?

Open your ears, my friend

Ditto, a least in respect to the ambiguity of the topic -  and Paranoid Android in particular has a classic prog structure

this is a tricky question... you cannot round that, beacuse:

1st.- if we compare the prog records that has been made since 1990 with the amount of prog records from the 70's and 80's, the 90's outnumber those decades like 3 to 1

2nd.- Nowadays are more "side-projects" than anytime before

3rd.- styles has evoluted into a "hundreds" of sub-genres

so... i have to mention 2 sideprojects:

OSI and B.L.U.E.

PEACE

I give the honors to 3 different albums:

Metropolis, Pt. II: "Scenes from a Memory" by DREAM THEATER

Deloused in the Comatorium by THE MARS VOLTA

THRAK by KING CRIMSON

I'm really surprised that nobody's mentioned THRAK so far.  It's a surprisingly brilliant album from a band that one might think of as past its prime.

Hate to post too often, but I forgot to mention:

Liquid Tension Experiment, Vol. 2.  This is absolutely the best side project I've ever heard...ever!!!

Cardiacs - Sing To God (Vol 1 & 2)

The semi prog classic. Cardicas never get enough mention in prog cirles as far as I'm concerned.

I must remind the right honourable gentleman that a monologue is not a decision.

THRAK is indeed an exceptional album and I'd NEVER think the Crims were past their prime.

very true. but this site isn't based on as prog as you can get these days. its about prog. i just dont like the way loadsa ppl talk about them on here as prog and that they are suggested for the site. same as muse. it should be strict to pure prog bands. i cudn't love those bands more. i am an avid collector of their work. but just not prog.

Perhaps by frenchies reckoning..

Mellotron soaked soundscapes, crafted out of irregular time signatures and melodramatic key changes. Nothing under 18 minutes in length need apply..

In short. Music that most people actually hate.

I think frenchie may be of the opinion that Prog does not have the right to evolve. I would agree with those who say the likes of Radiohead and Muse are prog for the 21st century. My impression of OK computer when I first heard it, was 'Oh, this is prog rock. I wonder if their young fans actually know that'

If bands like Muse & Radiohead wrote 25 minute biblical epics they would be selling about as many records as IQ. They have chosen to bring prog up to date, and to enjoy some commercial success, and still manage to be more progressive than Genesis ever were after 1978!!  IQ (who I do actually like alot ) choose to carry the torch for more 'pure' prog. Equally valid. Just different.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
