Probably Newman had no chance against the other much more famous names. May I suggest a 2nd poll on the same theme, but with lesser-known names, let's say Kristofferson, Jim Messina, JD Souther, John Mellencamp, and maybe re-entering some of the 0-vote guys in this one? |

I'm boycotting this poll until the best of them all; Leonard Cohen is added.

I could include Leonard Cohen in the next round, but that would mean dropping someone else from the poll. How about dropping Frank Zappa - my least favourite artist in the poll - but at the risk of Zappa fans boycotting the poll too, when trying to please everyone at once in these polls is proving to be an impossible task.

You could drop "Mister Vanilla," i.e., Jackson Browne.

Laurel Canyon legend Jackson Browne is one of my favourite artists, so I'd be Running On Empty without his albums in the poll. Maybe I'll drop Neil Sedaka instead, seeing as he hasn't picked up any votes so far. Breaking Up Is Hard to Do with Neil Sedaka, but I can live with it. |

While Leonard Cohen would get my vote (and none of these others have), I prefer these things commonly when people just include those they like and want to give more exposure to. Of course, that may not lead to much interest. And people can always mention what they like in these topics. The poll votes don't hold that much interest to me, it's the comments and getting to know people's tastes better, and discussing the music that is interesting. Not that I am good at discussing music, my mind works in a less than satisfactory way for music discussion (wish I were a better reviewer), but some are. I commonly don't think of art as sport, and kind of wish we could do away with the idea of winners and losers in such things (sometimes contests can be fun and have their utility of course). So I would say to respect the OP including what they want or chose, but feel free to make suggestions, highlight others, and hopefully expose someone to something they like. Anyway, I made a poll yesterday -- 26 Female Artists with 2010-up Releases I Love -- that did not even get one response, and it makes sense to try to make polls where people hopefully will be likely to actually care enough, be interested in, or appreciate the topic sufficiently to comment (in my case I have covered so many of these before that it probably feels very tired and redundant, rather like me in general). I think my tastes may be moving too far from Prog generally for this site (become more of an art pop guy). Carry on doing what you keep doing, Paul, because you do it well.

That's two votes so far for Gordon Lightfoot, who's not in the poll, so it looks like someone else will have to go to make way for him, the most likely contender at the moment being Jim Croce, who has the least number of albums (five) and the least number of votes so far (a big fat zero).

I didn't know im Croce was even around in 1966, but there you go. I like him too but I think Lightfoot's early albums were more notable

Hot Rats! I just had a Freak Out when I noticed there's one glaring omission from the revamped poll.
Uh-oh, it looks like Bryan Adams is about to get Zapped!

My comment may not have been my best or brightest moment at PA - but boycotting is once again proven a powerful tool for change:)

No problem. Thanks to your suggestion of Leonard Cohen for inclusion, together with the addition of Biily Joel, Gordon Lightfoot, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young & Frank Zappa, which others have helpfully suggested for inclusion in this interactive poll, the new line-up is a big improvement over my original selections.

Thanks Greg. I think this interactive poll is a big improvement over my original line-up with seven new names now added thanks to the valued suggestions of the good members of ProgArchives, and regarding your poll, I just noticed that Weyes Blood is included (being unfamiliar with her real name of Natalie Laura Mering), so she gets my vote.

Albums in my CD collection from the above list:-
