A couple things about that paper from CMU:

1. It isn't peer-reviewed.
2. It doesn't differentiate between fields of expertise of those that have Ph.D. degrees.
3. There isn't any indication in the article as to why Ph.D. individuals are more hesitant than other education-level groups. Instead on line 240 it says "Further investigation into hesitancy among those with a PhD is warranted."
4. This is only data through May. A lot has happened between May and now.

The link to UnHerd is an opinion piece which comes to the false conclusion: "So not only are the most educated people most sceptical of taking the Covid vaccine, they are also the least likely the change their minds about it..."

Neither skepticism nor "likely to change their minds" is even addressed in the actual article. The graph UnHerd posts isn't even in the actual article. It claims it's from CMU, but I've been unable to find such a graph in the CMU press release on the article.

I would opine that UnHerd is using deceptive practices in their opinion pieces. Based on this one piece, I would be inclined to treat UnHerd as an unreliable source of information. And one has to wonder why UnHerd is digging around looking at COVID-related articles that haven't even been peer-reviewed yet. Methinks they have an agenda.

If you want to really read what that article was about, go to the source where a full PDF file of it is available:

^^Sorry John. I was writing my response while I was reading the medRxiv article and over the course of that time I missed your post about bringing this back on target. I've said all I want to say on that, so I'll refrain from continuing this tangent. Embarrassed

Just curious to hear what others have noticed in Northern Europe or elsewhere.
Cindy and some others have lead this thread astray. I repeated the op in hopes of getting this thread back on its original purpose which is for people to relate the nature of the anti-mask people in your part of the world. If Cindy wants to debate lawsuits etc, please start a different thread, Thank you.

Perhaps angry rednecks and country bumkins don't like what the Sanford Engineer studies suggest?

"But in filtering those particles, N95 masks can also make it harder to breathe. Based on literature and confirmed by our measurements, N95 masks are estimated to reduce oxygen intake by anywhere from 5 percent to 20 percent. That’s significant, even for a healthy person. It can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. For healthy people, these side effects are temporary and usually not an issue. But if you are severely ill and are continuously wearing an N95 mask for several hours at a time, it can damage the lungs..."

How am I going off topic? I work as a nurse. One of the big reasons anti-mask nurses (in my part of the world)  don't like wearing masks... is because masks cut off your oxygen and make it hard to breathe.  Not easy wearing a mask for a 12 hour shift ( on your feet).  I carry a pulse oximeter everywhere I go on shift.   I can verify my Oxygen content is lower with a mask.

Well you read the first sentence, but maybe not the next two, so i will repeat them.

"A friend of mine in Lithuania tells me that the anti-maskers in Europe tend to be anarchists and antigovernment lefty types.
Just curious to hear what others have noticed in Northern Europe or elsewhere."

Anyway, we will be closing this soon.

Wouldn't America be "Elsewhere"?  That said, I will leave the topic to you because I don't live in Northern Europe...although I live elsewhere.

Couldn't elsewhere mean Asia, Australia, Southern Europe, Africa, South America, Canada and Central America.
