^That's true but it doesn't change anything. A lot of bands from the original British invasion changed their sound within a few years including the Beatles and Stones who also did covers in their early days.

Whatever, dude. With the Beatles and the Stones, it was a gradual evolution from album to album, year to year, over several releases. There is a radical difference between The Magnificent Moodies and DoFP, and a 40% change in bandmembers (or 2/5ths, if you prefer). Completely different genre of rock, completely different compositional style, even an influx of different instrumentation.

They just spanned the time periods. As did The Beatles and The Stones, and in the US Love, for instance.

Oh no! Not a very different lineup change! A different sound too! Oh, the horrors. Regardless, none of that means that DoFP should be considered their first album(or debut) no matter how you want to slice it.

Yes, I mentioned that "Days of Future Passed" wasn't the Moody Blues first album in the introduction to my poll. I didn't include "The Magnificent Moodies" in the poll for the same reason that The Dark Elf very eloquently stated earlier. The Moody Blues were a totally different band with a new sound and a new line-up in 1967 and a far cry from their 1965 roots as a Birmingham beat band.

I thought of Khan but I ran out of room to include them, having already used up all 25 poll options.

As ELP aren't going to win the poll so I voted for Procol Harum forgetting that it was their 1968 album that I was thinking of lol. Although not on the list, The Nice - The Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack was an important album. There were many bands of the time (Yes , Genesis and Deep Purple to name but 3) who took note of this band . The debut with Davy O'List is the best . There are a couple of powerhouse instrumental tracks Rondo and War and Peace that put the organ right at the front of the music. Of course it was the mighty Keith Emerson starting to flex his muscles big time!

The main difference is that Genesis and Renaissance were both prog bands right from the beginning, but the Moody Blues were a Birmingham beat band back in 1965 and not the slightest bit proggy, and besides, I doubt if anyone would have voted for "The Magnificent Moodies" 1965 album in a prog poll.

One thing that is notable about this list of albums is how many album names are the same as the name of the artist.

When I first saw this poll I thought this is easy King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King but there are a few good ones, it wasn't so easy I went with King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King just slightly ahead of ELP
