lets get in trouble with the ladies

I think I could count up to 20 women posting in the PA , which is way too few, and most of them are discreet. Threefates , Friede and Jean are the most visible members of feminine persuasion and they provide a welcome more feminine touch. There should a lot more of them , not just because we need them to cool the manners of young men, but also because I should think that there are no solid reasons for not liking this kind of music , if they tried a bit to get an interest.

Most of us progheads grieve at the fact that prog has too few women liking it and going to concerts. Most of us grieve at the fact that our partner does not like our music although we would love to share this passion with them - ie: the famous sentence: "Prog? That's the crap my husband listens to!". Actually , I am not faring too badly and most of my friends (who have women that fits them - meaning that they are well assorted as a couple) have spouses and girlfriends that also listen to it, although it is clear they would've never got to that music without the help of their man. I am inclined to think that should most of these couples break up , the woman would still lend an ear to prog, thus meaning that they did not listen to it just to please their man.

 

 

However , (I maybe generalizing here) for women , music is not seen with the same viewpoint. They consider music in a more festive manner. Music is for dancing, rejoicing and ultimately attract a mate. Of course , they listen to music, but are more inclined to buy what they hear on the radio.

An anecdote:

I once got mad my best female friend by saying that I thought that for a woman , my partner's vinyl collection was not too bad (my partner has in her collection some Floyd , one Yes , a few Queen , some Supertramp , early ELO , The Carpenters etc... but also some of crap  especially those cheap made for TV collections of hits from a given year etc...)! 

My friend thought that this was a terribly sexist comment from me! I spend almost half an hour explaining why I thought that the comment  was not sexist , maybe it was musical snobbery but not really sexism! She finally agreed to it , but I also explained that her extraordinary collection for a woman (she has over 3000 records , mostly rock , blues , prog , some fusion etc...) and that her musical tastes were one of the reason we were friends (and being an occasional lover another one) amongst the many other reasons!

yes there are and:

1. I can read a map and therefore....
2. I can gladly give directions to help any guy out of their pizza-box maze
3. I love most Prog (except doom metal/very jazzy-fusionesque stuff)

In fact my girlfriend has to take care of the spiders, at least if they have long legs. But I get rid of the bees. Now that is co-work or what.

In generally speaking, I do not think Prog is any exception.

For example, besides Prog, I hear other things (heavy stuff of Rock & Metal). Lately I've been interested in what lots of the girls whom I go to parties with currently listening to, so I spoke with lots of them and all of them said like the easy stuff.
So perhaps finding a girl who enjoys Prog is rarer than finding girls who like Heavy\Trash\Doom\Death\Death (genres like that) but I still do not think it should be considered as an exeption... There are some things of which we men only like and females won't and it's not prog only.

Besides, you're complaining about girls, but you do not know how hard it is for a high-school student (such as me) to find others who actually KNOW of the existence of the Prog genre.
I talk to lots of people of my age and they're mostly hearing stuff like System of a Down. What is actually funny is when a friend of mine gave me to hear some System's songs on his MP3 and he told his other friend to wants me to be exposed to some good music, when the first time I heard System was couple of years before the 'music understanding guys group' in my school has even heard about them, not to mention that their understanding about music is rather lacking.

soo.. I do not care much about it. even when I put on some metal my female friends do not think of it as much as I do..
Just let it go and let them hear those awfully bands.. bah.. Greenday :/
