really?

i heard, there is town called 'ELP' (?)

Yes, it's true (presumably, the word meant something else, when the town was named).

In fact, former Playboy playmate (and Gene Simmons' wife) Shannon Tweed hails from there. Presumably, she wanted something more....

SmileYeah, my island home has MANY amusing place names -- they hearken back to earlier, more innocent times, and do not imply what they now seem to:

Sheshatsh*t (an Innu town in Labrador, now spelled "Sheshatshu")
Blow Me Down
Paradise (believe me, it ain't)
Joe Batt's Arm
Hibb's Hole (since renamed Hibb's Cove, for some strange reason! Old joke: Q: Where's Joe Batt's Arm? A: Half-way up Hibb's Hole!
Come By Chance (lots of unplanned pregnancies there?)
Little Heart's Ease
Blackhead
Gayside (since renamed "Baytona" -- yeesh!)
Ha Ha Bay
The Gut
Nicky's Nose Cove

etc!

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

We have a town in Tennessee called "Dull." I can't imagine it's the most exciting of places....

A little off-topic, but I once lived on a naval base where a street was named "Seamen Trail".

Not a town name, but my favourite address in Britain is Sluts Hole Lane. It's just outside Norwich.
