What do you think about, JD, that some people question ELP's merits?

Anyway, we're used to it with the ratings ELP use to get.  Big smile

Glad to hear it, no pun intended Tongue. At the price that replacement stylus costs I would not push the life of it. I think LP Gear said 300 hours? I'd replace it close to what they say and also keep those records clean.....

Depending how serious you get with your vinyl eventually you'll want to get a stand alone turntable with a much higher end cartridge that will protect your records even more but get even better listening performance. I think that one you have does not have VTF (Vertical Tracking Force) adjustment, that can ruin records as well. Meaning either too heavy or too light of a downforce.
Something to think about.....Enjoy your records!!!! We are here to help, the nicest forum on PA.....I promise you!! Clap

I'm getting a new ortofon headshell tomorrow so I can get my setup back up and running. I may or may not messed up the wiring on my other headshell, but I'm blaming 70s wiring.

What do I think about it? Absolutely nothing to be honest. It doesn't affect me one way or another.
I'm happy to give music the fast food test. The more people that like it, the more likely it is to be absolute 5h!t (apologies to Taylor Swift).LOL
ELP have always taken the piss, many innovators do. There are a few prog bands that I could bash if I was so inclined, but what's the point. It won't ingratiate me to anyone to do so and it won't make me like the band any more. So, waste of energy.
I'm not a 'get your knickers in a knot' kinda guy, more of a duck really.
ELP were monumental in my introduction to prog. Not the first, but by far the most impactful. Having been involved in the music industry, I'm fully aware of any shortcomings that were present. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the music or the effort that went into its making. Maybe I don't like a whole song, but maybe the snare has a great sound, or just the right effect on a vocal. Too many people miss the subtleties within the music and only view it at large.
That's their loss, not mine.

I'm sure you can Google a fix if you think the wiring is screwed up......It's not too difficult to fix I am sure. What cartridge are you using now?

I'm going to put on a Grado Green3, not the greatest but it was a budget friendly upgrade from cheapo cartridges on suitcase turntables.

I wish, I had the same approach, JD. I did many years ago, but then I began to look at and think about top lists, and I do it all too much today.  Unhappy

I can confirm I am very happy with my current setup now that I finished it. The Grado is truly a night and day difference from what I'm used to. And to celebrate this I obviously have to listen to my beat up copy of Supertramps Crisis? What Crisis?. Something about this album hits different, perhaps its the fact that the sleeve is having a crisis, I mean what crisis.

Glad your having a much more engaging experience with your Grado......Anytime I've gone up the food chain with carts the experience is so well worth it, you have no idea the sonic wonders that are buried deep in the grooves.

I only ever had this on cassette from 1985, finally broke down and bought the LP version. This is the 2018 remaster that's cut by Bernie Grundman, remastered by Bernie and James Guthrie, Joel Plante.
Sounds really good, a bit noisy in spots so I'll run it thru the ultrasonic cleaner, should do the trick. Kinda forgot how great this album is, certainly worth all the accolades it received back in the day!

^ Yea I started looking for an OG copy on Discogs and due to Stranger Things people want whacko money for a mint or nm copy. I bought this one new for $25, the inner sleeve is exact as the OG versions so nothing lost with getting a reissue.

New, hot purchase, Led Zepp IV, 1977 US, Presswell press, almost NM/NM (not on Discogs Approve).

My first LP-version of this album, sounds f**king good. Tongue
