great points.  i'm the exact same way with daniel.  i hate to say it, but the daniel tunes on UtF may have been better served by having hasse sing them.  in fact, i wonder if there was any bad blood between daniel and hasse.  daniel did kind of come in a take some of his parts.

as far as adam and eve go, that album would've been a masterpiece if the the daniel tunes were not on there and Driver's Seat had a different arrangement.  the intro to that song is so damn awesome.  i wish they'd come back into it at some point and had roine or hasse sing the part daniel did.  i'm not complaining though, i love that song.

i too wonder about roine and his concern about fans and critics.  f**k 'em as far as i'm concerned.  he has to follow his muse.  our opinions are really none of his business.  it's just us wasting time on PA!  i gotta say, i am very curious about what's coming this year record wise.

See, as far as Daniel is concerned, I think the songs he sings on A&E are the only redeeming qualities of that album (well, the title track isn't great, but I like it a whole lot better than Cosmic Circus or the opening epic).  Driver's Seat might have been better with a different arrangement though, agree with that.  Of course, I'm not really a fan of Hasse's vocals, when it comes right down to it.  He's gotta a lot more shrill over the years, to my ears......though I think he and Roine do sound great together.  I would have been fine with Daniel replacing Hasse, but I doubt most other fans would agree (and really, I'm not sure that would have worked out very well in the long haul anyway).

Also, Roine invited Daniel into the group and wrote parts for him to sing, so I don't think there was any bad blood at all (judging from Hasse's facebook posts and other writings, he's a very easy going guy).  I honestly don't think Hasse would have sung those parts as well as Daniel did.  On the Carpe Diem live album, Roine and Hasse attempt to cover Daniel's vocals on A Vampire's View.  They do okay, I guess, but Hasse is really straining on the "powerful" parts, and it's not pretty (to my ears, anyway).

Roine's the best singer in TFK's, for my money, though I would never say Hasse is "bad" by any stretch.  I just find that with each new album, I find his vocals less appealing (though I still think he sounds fantastic on Retropolis, Stardust We Are, Flower Power and Space Revolver.......after that is when he slowly started to grate on my ears more with each album).

yeah, i know you and dark shade like the tune Vampire's View.  that is an interesting song, i think it messes with the flow of A+E.  i just love hasse as a person and singer.  he's so damn cool on stage and in interviews, he is so easy going.  my family and i have been joking about where he's going to sleep when TFK come through town and the band stays with us.  the kids want Hasse to sleep on the top bunk in their room!  LOL
as far as his voice goes, he's in his 40s now, so that might be it.  he's definitely more rough on the latest HFMC disc.
Stardust we are.

I don't know why, but that made me giggle hysterically for a moment or two.

Anyway chaps - I was first exposed to Stolte's vocals, knowingly when I got the first two studio Transatlantic Cd's - and I must say that they are equally as good as any FK's efforts "My New World" is a track that I have re-discovered and this is as good as anything TA / FK's have ever done.....Anyway back to Stolte, his vocals grow on you, and I like the sort of Swedish drawl English which is noticeable for stolte and Galleons lead singer...I also feel for those fans (like the fans of Death metal Opeth) whose band suddenly produces a complete change of direction...It's Like Genesis, in 1978 and ELP when they produced Love Beach......Imagine if The Saturdays covered "Ghost of Perdition" - I can see the DVD now - all them girls dressed in skin tight leather and skin tight rubber knickers........It's a hit it's a hit!!!!

Yea, imagine The Flower Kings changed directions on the next album and go all dub-step on us. I'm sure plenty of people would cry out for blood (some TFK-haters might love it though haha)

And Tom, saw you're response on the locked down post - me banging on about the Genesis Sell-out - T me they almost certainly did - sure they played one or two of the classics - usually in a medley and ruined by that totally out of his depth - Daryll Steurmer.....If Genesis - had made a 80 minutes CD - nod back to their Roots - for the older fans to buy up with relish...I would agree with you...but they never did...and I have have seen P. Collins be very disparaging about the 70's prog scene......His preferences lie far outside symphonic progressive rock.....Mr Wakeman is also culpable with his analogy of prog and pornography.........We ARE NOT AMUSED!!!!!

Dub Step - its a subdivision of the progressive electronica genre, there's a lot of weird dancy stuff in 7/8.

I wouldn't exactly say those are the 'best' but they do represent the 'core' sound of the genre. To be honest, bands like Pretty Lights do the genre justice, and not just playing things that go 'wub-wub' in the night.

In other words - music to dance round your handbag in the bang-bang club.....I certainly won't be listening to any of that, rather listen to my own blood spurting from my severed carotid artery as my life ebbs away....

Rob, you reminded me what a great freaking song My New World is.  Certainly the best Flower Kings song played by TA (I say that because I get the feeling that Roine would have put it on a FK album if TA had not happened........similar to how Monster Within was supposed to be a TA track but Roine just couldn't wait and put it on Space Revolver instead).

As to dub step, my only experience with it was a joke YouTube video my son played me of some guy telling his parents he found what he wanted to  do with his life and then proceeded to "sing" a basic dub step line (dub wub wub boosh!) over and over again as his parents look on in horror and disgust.  Something like that.

I kind of feel like TFK's changed direction a bit with Banks.......making a stripped down, ultra clean type of album in the Karmakanic vein..........though I suppose it's really not that much of a change.  You guys all seem to like it a lot so I guess I'm in the minority here on feeling like it's nearly their worst album (though, as I've said before, not bad by any means).  Listening to the other albums I have confirmed that it's not just FK burnout, as I still love all the others to varying degrees.

zumacraig.......maybe that's why I like Vampire's View so much, because it "breaks the flow" of an album that wasn't doing anything for me prior to that track...............

That's great news Roj - I was concerned that you were going to miss out on this amazing show.

I've been playing Momentum the past week or so. Of course, it's Neal Morse on a stick and we've heard it all before but it's still great stuff and will be amazing to see live.

Wink

I love that track as well Wink

Quote Anyway back to Stolte, his vocals grow on you, and I like the sort of Swedish drawl English which is noticeable for stolte and Galleons lead singer
I love Roine's vocals. There's the occasional pronounciation that's a bit off but rather endearing such as it seems the Swedish can't say the letter "J" so "just" becomes "yust".

The funniest one is on the latest album "The Queen behind the vealLOL

Still, I know sod all Swedish so who am I to comment on Roine's English?
