I actually like Ron Paul quite a bit, he's a true American in that he doesn't want you to be anything other than what you are; the religious zealotry and gay bashing that's been going on among the GOP is inexcusable, and he seems the only one who doesn't care about that (or maybe he sees they're all on the wrong side of history). It's too bad Paul is so friggin old, not that I'd mind an older president but it may not appeal to most voters. Seems like a good man though, and I think ultimately that's what people want.

I don't know if anyone saw this interview. It reaffirms my faith in Ron Paul. Even what he says about abortion is profound, compassionate, and astute.
However, I dislike that Piers Morgan asks complex questions and continually interrupts Dr. Paul after a few sentences. Worse, Morgan doesn't even understand what Paul is saying some of the time (and in one case- abortion- actually gets it completely wrong). |

Wouldn't it be nice if this were statewide/nationwide:
![]() Of course, even if it was the vote count is still what's seen and that creates a significant image issue. The Paul campaign hasn't really wanted to come out and say, "hey, we got this many delegates" for risk of calling attention to the strategy but they are probably going to have to start. In Minnesota it is entirely possible (I'm biased but I'd bet on it) that Paul picked up more actual delegates than Santorum. It's also going to be important Dr. Paul carry Maine just to end the "only one left who hasn't won a state" script the media's been pushing.

Maybe I just didn't understand the process before, but this primary season has confused the crap out of me.
How can we call this democracy?

It isn't and never was and really shouldn't be called that. The United States is (or more correctly: was) a constitutional republic. Democracy was viewed as institutionalized mob rule/tyranny of the majority by the framers so they did not create one. Now, over time, politicians have used the word incorrectly to foster ignorance and grab more power for themselves. At this point we have neither a republic or democracy, in actual practice.

^ There's nothing delusional about it; people with money may be ridiculed and even resented occasionally, but most Americans seem to realize our culture encourages accumulation of wealth or property, seem to embrace that and those that have achieved it. That's not always the case in other countries and is actually a fairly resonable perspective-- we don't fool ourselves into thinking if we had a chance to make good money that we wouldn't take it, or that we'd give it all away to the needy. I'm all for raising taxes on the rich - particularly for things like public education or healthcare - but I also think it's just fine that they have a lot more money and stuff than I do.

I'm a public educator, and let me tell you, it isn't money we need to be successful (though everyone would have folks believe we do). |

I simply meant that this myth of democracy is a dominant part of our culture when in fact we live in an oligarchy.
My family is intentionally decreasing our income, taking our kids out of private school, and we're happier than we've been in some time.
I'm as troubled by my own privelege as that of the super-rich.

^Democracy in itself is a myth. The power of the people never really exists. Majorities crushing minorities can't be called an ideal system.
