Whew, long trip, I'm back guys:

Rob and Roj, I find myself to be terribly jealous of you two, wish I could be there.

Kati:  You'll find a few on here that love The Whirlwind as well, personally, I keep trying to get into it and fail miserably (though I'll probably continue to try).

Horizons:  I disagree with you entirely, I think he has a great voice which is combined to great effect with Hasse Froberg's.  If you care to, listen to "End on a High Note" from the one and a half minute mark as an illustration of what I mean.  (actually, I think the live version on "Instant Delivery" is better, but I couldn't find it on Youtube).

Ok here's an interesting story, true one, about The Flower Kings Smile a great art designer, known as Ed Unitsky, who did their previous album artwork also designed the Flower Kings tour bus, the very first time they went on tour with the bus they hit a moose, it was completely damaged no rescue for the bus, no idea what happened to the poor moose tho Ermm

Stolt's vocals have a lot of character (which can't be said of most modern singers, in any genre). Some may like it, some may not, but they have character. They've also evolved from what I can tell. On the early TFK albums, it seemed like Roine was the second coming of John Wetton from King Crimson, at least in the vocal department. But since Flower Power, I think Roine has done some fantastic work vocally, not only in TFK, but in Transatlantic, The Tangent, Karmakanic, and Agents of Mercy. I'll admit, he does occasionally cringe-worthy things with his voice, but I find him enjoyable most of the time. He is an acquired taste, but I think over time, you learn to enjoy his vocals.

Also, I agree that Roine's vocals compliment Hasse's (and even moreso when Daniel was in the band).

The finale to Garden of Dreams has one of Roine's most emotional vocals I've ever heard from him. Also, Most of the songs he's sang on since Paradox Hotel have been just fine, if not great.

The only time Roine's vocals bother me is when he does that thing where is seems like he doesn't want to sing the last note(s) in a melody and just "drops" his voice like he's just saying it. Seems like it might be a slight Zappa influence, but I never felt like he pulled it off right. Anyone know what I mean? It's kinda hard to explain, and he's done it in both TFK and Transatlantic.

I know, feel and understand what you mean, Darkshade Smile however none of them can be compared to Gildenlow's vocals really. He is unique and his vocal octaves equally very rare. Hug

I never got into PoS, but I agree that Daniel's vocals are great, and were really great for TFK. Unfold The Future, Meet The Flower Kings, and Adam & Eve owe a lot of their greatness to Daniel' vocals, IMO. Having 3 lead vocalists seemed to work for the band.

I'm surprised they didn't go for The Robin or Leamington Academy.

Anyway - what a night we've got to look forward to Smile

Welcome to the thread Kati - it's great to have you here Smile

You'll find that most of us like most of the other stuff that the Flower Kings guys have been involved with, especially Transatlantic Wink

I was lucky enough to be at the show in London where they filmed the Whirlwind DVD - fantastic!!

I also saw their warm-up show for the 2001 tour which was at a little club in Oxford called The Zodiac Club. Another amazing night Smile

Who are your favourite bands/artists? Your top ten maybe?

Did you see my reply in the "bagpipes" thread about Underdog on Space Revolver by the way?

Cheers!

Hey Kati, welcome to my home on the net, big hug back at you.

I'll have to give The Whirlwind yet another whirl (get it, see what I did there) . . . as I said, I keep hoping for that a-ha moment.

Darkshade: I thought about you te other day, my Dad was getting rid of some old CD's of his and gave me the chance to browse them.  I now own "Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar" (both parts).  I haven't listened to them yet, but probably some time next week.

Finally, Pain of Salvation . . . there's another band that I never quite got.  Sure, there are some songs that I like, even some that I love, Disco Queen and Used immediately come to mind as does the entire album of "Be".  With that being said, I have "Entropia", "Scarsick", "The Perfect Element", "12:5", "Remedy Lane" and "Be".  Be is the only one that I listen to with any regularity.
