^ Have you ever listened to Paradox Hotel? It's a different kind of TFK album. A little darker, a nice mix of all different kinds of songs. A lot less symphonic than most of their other albums. Might be the one that turns you on to the band.
I know you tried Unfold The Future, I would recommend trying that one again too.

i hear ya. i go back and forth about being a completist with all the TFK related stuff. it does kind of meld together a bit. what i really want to do is just focus on TFK, TA and DT. and if i get board or need something new, then i can pick up some kaipa etc. i do like the singer in karmakanic though and damn if i really want to get some AoM too! ![]() okay, time for bed.... oh i for got, i really gotta get 3rd world electric too!!

When I first got into the Flower Kings, my favorite bands were all 70's bands that hadn't released anything new in many years (or at least, anything I liked). So when I found TFK, I wanted everything I could get my hands on. This has resulted in a very large number of albums and bands that I've collected thanks to them. I have no regrets, and most of it I still pull out and listen to (though some of the more obscure stuff, like New Grove Project for example, were not particularly good to begin with). Anyway, Tomas Bodin's solo stuff, some Karmakanic, nearly all of the Tangent, and Agents Of Mercy, have all held up over the years for me and still put out good stuff. TA as well, of course, though they don't do as much for me as some of the others.

I am going to have a hiatus on CD purchasing for the time being and try and listen to the new stuff I have got in the past month. Tomorrow night I'll be listening to my new Nexus stuff me thinks - a Hammond Organ Fest, I'm not so sure that Nexus is all that popular with the other regular posters on this thread...so I could be on my own on having their complete studio CD output...(Picture me rubbing my hands together and doing the Doctor evil Laugh

Over the holidays i immersed myself in the first TA album. really got into the live versions online. i got the whirlwind for xmas and haven't listened to it all the way through yet. i really loved Bridge Across Forever, but i cannot get into the whirlwind or maintain any interest in the first album. not sure why. Whirlwind is just way too long methinks. for me, it might be morse. after a while his stuff gets too catchy and samey. probably need to stick with morse era SB and come back to TA at a later date. i really hope they reel it in for the new album. i think Topographic kind of determined the length an epic can go with out getting out of control :-)
btw, got the inner circle newsletter from morse yesterday. it always comes with a nice sermon :-) a new flying colors album is imminent for this year. fwiw.

i was able to easily get all The Tangent albums, they're all online. Same with any other TFK-related act, but for some reason, the first two Karmakanic albums are out of print, and go for hundreds of dollars on Amazon. These are some of the only albums from the TFK family I don't have a hard copy of, and would love to get one day. You definitely need 3rd World Electric. I like to throw it on once in a while, it's nice modern fusion, obviously Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius inspired, so not very progressive, but quite enjoyable.

i actually had a hard time finding the first tangent and first 'new' kaipa. greg has everything usually, except those first two karmakanic, like you said. i would also like cinematograph by tomas, but that's nowhere to be found. yeah, 3rd world is on my list. love lalle and love weather report!

Speaking of Lalle, does anyone know how his solo albums are? I remember hearing good things, but that was months ago.
Craig, I believe all the Tangent albums can be bought on Amazon?

Hey there Darkshade, I've got those last three Lalle solo albums, and they're wonderful! A mix of lounge-jazz piano/fusion with heavy guitar, Jonas' knockout bass playing, long guitar solos, etc. Some brooding atmospheres, some lighter touches, plenty of keybaord wig-outs too!
I haven't listened to his most recent one quite as much yet, but it's noticeably heavier than the previous two. But all are worth buying, I've replayed them endlessly! ![]() |

Hey guys, I'm on vacation so I'm only on briefly. I learned something today while driving in the car. It's never too late to stop listening to Radiohead. |

Listening to Lalle's new album "Nightscapes" on Spotify. Wow! Why haven't I checked out his stuff earlier? Anyone know where I can buy a hard copy of his albums without dropping $40-$50???

Darkshade, If Greg Walker at Syn-phonic has them in stock (which he usually would!), he's got them at great prices (that's where I've bought all three of them over time): SAME $14 INFINITY OF WORLDS (DIGIPACK) $14 NIGHTSCAPES (DIGIPACK) $16 Can't go wrong with any of them! ![]() |

Even Greg walker doesn't have the first 2 Karmakanic albums. I wonder why they're out of print??

I think I bought the first two Karmakanics off of EBay. Unfortunately one of them turned out to be a cheap Russian knockoff, but at least the music sounds good on it.

I have the first two Lalle albums, and they are just okay. They remind me a bit of Derek Sherinians solo albums, though not quite as heavy. No songs stay in my head at all, and as soon as they end I can't remember a single melody or riff. Not a good sign. However, the performances are flawless, and all players are obviously top notch, so there's that. I just don't "feel" anything from them at all.
I got the first two Karmakanic when they were released, that's what you guys should have done ![]() ![]() |

Lalle's new one did remind me of Derek Sherinian's stuff at times, but there was some amazing bass work from Jonas which sounded pretty cool.
When Karmakanic's first album came out, it was 2002, I was either a freshman or sophmore in high school, and was still only into the more popular music of the time.
