I find it truly sad that you place property above human life, including your own, because you would also obviously be killed in such a confrontation. Life > property. Always. Edited by The Doctor - November 29 2012 at 19:28 |

Well, you have no respect for property rights. I will kill someone who attempts to rob me. If someone doesn't like that, then someone shouldn't try to take what isn't theirs. Got it? Edited by Epignosis - November 29 2012 at 19:29 |

I respect property rights to a point. But like everything else, property rights are not absolute. And you have no respect for life if you would kill to protect money.
And in most states, and I would support this. If you killed someone who posed no other threat to you than a threat to your property, without also posing a threat to your life, you would go to prison. And I think that's right. You should go to prison for that. Edited by The Doctor - November 29 2012 at 19:31 |

I have a question for you Rob. Why haven't you yet gone all Timothy McVeigh. You believe taxation is theft (although you don't believe CEOs underpaying their staff so they can increase their own exorbitant salaries is theft ) and you just said you'd kill anyone who tried to steal your money.

A threat to my property is a threat to my life and livelihood. If you show up at my house with an intent to steal from me, I'm not going to think, "Gee, this person just wants my stuff. I'll let him take what he wants and let him go. He probably won't harm us." That is stupid. You come in my house uninvited I will try to kill you. I don't care what the law says. If you value your life, stay the f**k out of my house uninvited. K? Have you ever been robbed Chester? I have. |

I don't pay federal taxes. I'm one of the 47%. The federal government gives me thousands of dollars just because I'm married, work, and have children. |

No I haven't. And I'm not saying I wouldn't be angry and I might even have thoughts of doing harm to the person who did it. But using deadly force is not acceptable on a person who only poses a threat to your property. We should be above the beasts in the wild, Rob.

Then you should put your money where your mouth is and stop accepting anything from the federal government. Don't you think? |

When you can determine when a person is in it for materials only, let me know. I don't try to take the time to figure it out. I also protect other people's property. I ran down a purse snatcher a few years ago. Someone comes into my house unwelcome, I assume he's there to kill me or my family and I shall act accordingly. If you don't like that proposition, don't enter my house unwelcome. It's simple. Stay out.
I do my taxes according to the 189 page manual that comes with a basic two-page 1040. I do what I am told. I don't agree with receiving money, but I get money. I don't agree with paying money, but I've paid money before too. |

If you are not willing to use violence to protect your property what do you intend to do,just ask? You are basically inviting anyone who wants to to just waltz into your house and take whatever they want because they know that, as long as they don't threaten you physically, you will not try to harm them.
If everyone had your mindset, only fools would not be thieves. |

I didn't say I was unwilling to use violence. I said it was unacceptable to kill to protect property alone. Rob, fair enough, and that is something I can understand. Using deadly force to protect yourself and your loved ones from violent harm or death is acceptable. I'm not a pacifist by any means. However, you did say that you would use deadly force against government agents (who presumably would not be there to kill you or your family, but simply to take your stuff). |

I don't understand what you mean by that. Are you saying that Rob would not be willing to defend his property with the guns he owns? I would not gamble on that, my friend. |

If I believed in something as much as you believe that you should neither give nor receive money from the government, I simply wouldn't do it, no matter the consequences. Courage of your convictions, my friend. |

I don't care really because talking about hypothetical situations is in the end just talk. Violence is only one of many ways in dealing with problems.

Convictions? They're called withholdings. Government gets my money before I do. But I have other convictions. We home school our children (thus saving the state thousands), for one. |

So are you just getting a refund of your withholdings or do you get back more than was withheld? I get a refund at the end of the year. Government withholdings equal about 5K per year, but then I get back a couple hundred dollars at tax time. But I don't view that as actually getting money from the government. I thought you were talking about the EIC. You don't have to accept money over and above whatever was withheld. If you believe that strongly about it, you could always cut a check back to the IRS for the amount of the EIC overpayment. Just sayin.

The more money I can take from the IRS, the more money I can assure isn't being squandered by inept bureaucrats. |

I'm referring to modern war in general. The Israel/Palestine situation is even more idiotic than most modern wars. |
