This might sound stupid, but what exactly do you mean by "More than 470"? More than 470 what?

In this game we often give each other cryptic hints like this. That’s part of the fun. A more direct hint could easily be a giveaway, but if you find the right answer, the hints will confirm that you are correct.
New hint: He let the musicians rest on the Sabbath.

I have a match: John "Bartholomew" Roberts, aka Black Bart (1682-1722), pirate.
Hints:
#1: He took more than 470 vessels
#2: He was killed by a grapeshot.
#3: A Barbadian's Head
#4: The Golden Age of Piracy.
I'll come up later with another one.

Well, at least I can comfort myself. There's no way I could have known all that.

Well done again! The musicians/Sabbath hint was based on one of the rules included in the "pirate code" on his ship Fortune: 11. The musicians shall have rest on the Sabbath Day only by right. On all other days by favor only.Did they really employ musicians on pirate ships? I guess they had to fight hard with their fiddles and tin flutes.

None of us do, Jam. We search for the clues and when we find a match we check with Wikipedia and other sources. If you had googled 470 abh grapeshot, your first hit would have been the Wiki entry on this man. But welcome to the game, and I hope we didn’t scare you away from it! One more thing: When someone_else answers our questions, his hints are written in "invisible" typing. Select all, and you will be able to read them. He never gives any hints in his first post, but from the second one and onwards they will be there.

I know about that. I think I did google it or something. Or maybe I didn't. I can't remember. And no, you didn't scare me away
