Irreversible - Oh my! This might have been the MOST...F'ed up movie I have ever seen.  Sure, Ichi the Killer was pretty messed up and violent, and Oldboy was very twisted, but this was just...HOLY CRAP! Somehow, the director was able to really get me involved here.  Not in a sense of caring for characters, but actually feeling and experiencing what was happening as if I were there, but still an outside observer.  The first half is the most intense cinematic experience I have ever been a part of.  INTENSE doesn't even begin to describe everything I felt.  Partially it is because of the story, and also because of the camera work.  Oh man.  The second half, like the first is brilliant, but easier to take, and is actually quite beautiful except when put in context with what happens later (or rather before), then it makes everything even more depressing.  Honestly, if you have the guts WATCH THIS.  Its pretty incredible.  There was one particular scene which you know or will know if you watch it that quite literally dropped my jaw, made me gasp and lose my breath for some time. 8.5/10.

Spirited Away (2001) - now this was a fine movie, highly imaginative, dazzling animation, an addictive story that makes you wish the movie was an hour longer, all the creatures and spirits other characters were all uniquely done, I love when these fantastical child fairy tales are done so well... - 8.5

Oldboy (2003) - looks like I'm the last on the planet to have finally seen this movie, when a movie is this popular I can't help but think that it won't live up to the hype (ehem, the dark knight), well not only did Oldboy live up to all its praise but it also surpassed my expectations, a very meticulously pieced together movie that flows together seamlessly into quite a shocking conclusion, (I'm glad I never read any previous discussions on this movie so I wasn't spoiled in any way - I went into the movie fresh with no clue as to what it was about) not much more to say that hasn't already been said, just a highly original stylized movie with a great story that slowly unfolds throughout the film and comes together perfectly in the end - 9/10

Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids (2004) - this was actually a documentary, I don't give ratings on such films as I find it callous to "rate" the real life misfortune of others, there was actually quite a few heart warming moments in the film as those kids are so innocent and bright eyed although it just makes it so much more heart wrenching knowing how so many kids like these are constantly born into an endless loop of adversity and tragedy, there are some moments of hope though at the end - n/a

Curtiz' Casablanca.  Better than most of the hipster nonsense peddled today.

Funny British comedy- highly recommended 8.5/10

The Adventures of Baron Münchhausen
This is an awesome movie, and I don't just say this because I grew up with the Baron Münchhausen tall tales as an integral part of my childhood, but because this movie is... well, it's a great exciting and funny children's fantasy movie but something more than that. There's lot of typical Terry Gilliam commentaries on human behaviour and society, but it's worked seamlessly into the story and mostly stays in the subtext so that it doesn't feel forced or distracts from the lightheartedness of the whole endeavour. It expands upon the Münchhausen stories while also respecting it. Also, a before-she-was-famous Uma Thurman as Venus? Greatest casting ever.

Hogfather (2006) - made for BBC TV movie although it had a big screen quality, a humorous fantasy based on the Terry Pratchett novel. I think it started off really strong the way they laid down the foundation of the plot, introduced the characters and set up the fictional land of Discworld. When it was set in motion it tended to drag after a while and I was hoping the group of villains would have had more of an adventure set out for them instead of just the single place they start and end at. Over all though it was pretty well done and while there was plenty of humor it wasn't overt. 7/10

Gran Torino (2008) - Hmm, I didn't realize this was going to be so much of a comedy. A lot of this seemed a bit outlandish and exaggerated. I was hoping for something more serious...and I guess it was serious in some parts and towards the end...and I liked the ending too but I think it lacked some of the impact it ought to have had. I see my own fate turning out something similar to Kowalski. My favorite part of the movie though is when the Asian girl and dumb white boy are accosted by the 3 black thugs and Kowalski steps out of his truck and says: "Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn't have f'd with? That's me." I clapped in the theater for that one. 6.5/10

The Resurrected (1992) - based on the Lovecraft tale, "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward." I was actually surprised how well done this was considering what they had to work with. The story unfolded in a well paced and interesting fashion also had some genuinely creepy moments. Dexter Ward's "creations" were pretty well done too. There was a few awkward moments though like when March's partner dies at the end he doesn't even blink and eye about it....his attitude was like, "oh well" :shrugs:....bad acting and unrealistic reactions to given situations holds it back. 6/10

Watched Le Circle Rouge again tonight.

I finally saw Apocalypse Now. Pretty good but the soundtrack was annoying and some parts were kind of dull. 8.5/10
