Dennis, about the best you will get from me is to say that I never skip a track when I listen to Space Revolver.
Geesh, you didn't have to "lawyer up" on me.  There is no shame to openly enjoying the pure glee that is The Chicken Farmer Song.  At this point I have updated my diagnosis of you from being "in denial" to being:

A Closet Chicken Farmer Song Lover!!!!!

Feel free to come out of the closet, anytime, my friend.

^ Hm you have a saxophonist who thinks he's one of the blues brothers......
That picture definately doesn't sell the band to me - is anyone actually in a symphonic progressive rock band???
There used to be loads of small gigging prog acts such as, Trekellian Skyway, Tamarisk, Alaska, Daga Band, airbridge, As Above so Below,  Moriarty, Trilogy just to name a few.....

http://gates-and-neely.bandcamp.com/album/home-recordings

here's a link to my band.  there are a few electric tunes as well as acoustic.  i play lead guitar sing lead on most.  very neil young inspired.

that phantom cover is awesome!  i remember seeing the poster of that tennis girl at record stores and just staring at it.  blast from the past :-)

DM, yeah, we really don't do a medley...we do an entire acoustic duo version of Garden Of Dreams!

FYI-Hackett's new Genesis Revisited II out today.  I've listened on spotify.  It is bloody good.  Mikael from Opeth singing lead on Supper's Ready!!

One thing i don't understand is why he didn't revisit Invisible Touch.  Anyone know?

Ok, so I'm starting a project that should last the next six months or so.  I'm listening to all of the music on my hard drive in the order of the album title.  If you're interested in following along and commenting and such, you can read it here:

Feel free to join in the ride if you're so inclined.

Great idea. I should really do something like that some time.
Just so I understand, all the music you'll listen to during these 6 months will in support of this project?
Can you live without your favourites that long?

I once limited myself because of some stupid last.fm obsession and it drove me crazy.

Thanks !! Your topics always so good and informative. I like you talk.

I once tried to go through and listen to my whole CD collection in a similar fashion.  It lasted about 2 days before I decided I didn't want to listen to the next album in the sequence.  Never tried anything like that since.

Thanks, it was really out of boredom that started it, I didn't know what all to pick so I just started randomly.  I ended up sorting by album to keep grouped songs together but avoid listening to the entire Genesis discography in one week.

To clarify, no, I am not limiting myself to not listening to other music, Monday for instance was Steve Hackett day cause that was the mood that I was in.  This is more of an organized way to get through everything that I own.  Also, this is only for my work day playlist.  If I'm in the car, or bopping around the house, I'm usually listening to something else.

Gus, it's slightly easier in my place cause this is all background music played while I'm at work.  It's not a wasted hour if I find something I can't stand.  It's kind of a good way for me to get rid of the crap that I've collected over the years.

Good luck!  It has taken me over 3 years to get to Prokofiev in my collection starting alphabetically by band.  I might be done if that was all that I did, but I do listen to what I feel like and new stuff often too.  Maybe in another 2 years or so I will have made it through my entire collection and can start over again. Wacko

Smart man. A heavy burden that we all share: not knowing what to listen to because of our very large music collections!

I can usually get a way with 1 or 2 hours of playing my own music (if don't pick anything too outrageous) before a colleague turns on the radio.

Well, that makes sense.  Also, when you say by album that would be preferable as with my collection it was by band.  It think if I took all albums on my computer and played them in alphabetical order by album, it would be easier to get through.  I don't listen to music at work for the most part, as it's dead quiet in here most of the time and people seem to prefer it that way.  If I had an office, I would be more likely to put on music every day.  Alas, I'm not that important OuchLOL

for years my listening was determined by the newest album i got.  that has wained in the last several years, so i have to chooseLOL.  it is difficult. lately i've been limiting myself to one album and some random streaming.  right now it's banks of eden.  i am really loving this album.  especially the non epic tunes.  it is mastered a bit hot though.

i tried doing an album a day.  lasted one day.  another thing i have a very hard time with is having ALL of my music in an iPod.  it's too overwhelming.  add in the fact that you can listen to basically anything you want and i can't decide.  i've made a list of favorite artists and i stick with that.  TFK is at the top, or course.

btw, listening to tangerine dream now.  they are not on my list and i'm remembering why.Ouch

I have a number of Tangerine Dream CD's - Only "Force Majeure" - has had a spin in the past five years - Cludburst Flight being a particularly memorable composition by the Tangs.....
Similarly, Hawkwind - Only played - Levitation in the past five years.....
Ho hum....

I love all Tangerine Dream's 70's albums.  One album is nowhere near enough, though Phaedra is probably the best of the bunch, so if you just pick one, that is an excellent choice.  Of course, I love ambient stuff like them and Klaus Shultze (I actually prefer him to TD), so I'm biased.  You can't listen to that stuff the same way you listen to normal music.  It's a case where "background" is the foreground, if that makes any sense.  Or maybe I just did too much acid in my youth..............

you're right.  i think i could really get into them if i sat down and paid solid attention, the way i do with flower kings.  Eno's stuff is like that too.  interestingly enough, i find that i like the Klaus Shultze stuff better too.  see TD live would be interesting.  two dudes walking around turning knobs for 30 minutes, then doing it again, then doing it again for the encore :-)  from what i see they've put out a sh*tload of albums and even re-recorded some albums. one thing i love about TD is their album covers.  awesome!

btw-is Road Back Home worth getting?  it has some remixes on it and stuff, right?

eh up, I have a couple of eno CD's also - mustn't have played them since I bought em way back when Stolte was a lad....I have Phaedra on vinyl and CD like most of the earlier TD stuff - I also have quite a lot of other electronica - like Isao Tomita - never to be played again probably...also some extremely rare Vinly/CD's by mostly German performers - and I can't even remember the album names nor the musicians - Have to get in the loft for a ganders.....
Wonder what my youngest son will do when he gains the collection when I shuffle off this mortal coil......
