The thing is (with an expanding prog collection) - I have realised that Pan European and Central/South American prog - is a rich vein of prog that I have yet to mine...... I have Cuban, Argentinian, Italian, French, Dutch, Polish, German, Swedish and French CD's but I am sure that there is absolutely loads yet to get - and it's a personal mission to own every single CD that Stolte has played on.....
that's quite a mission. have you heard Fantasia? i'm curious about that one. Stolt also has this band called the flower kings which you should check out.......'
as far as adam and eve go and rainmaker....well, rainmaker is my favorite tfk album. my fav song is on there, last minute on earth. one of my top epics is on adam and eve, driver's seat. love em.
btw, listening to the new fusion syndicate. billy sherwood and a sh*tload of guests. not too bad. nice sounding, but not that memorable.
Yes, Fantasia. Good luck finding that one. You'll have even more trouble finding the two "Stolte" albums (that was the "band" name, though they are solo albums). What I've heard about all three is that they are pretty radio friendly....short pop tunes mostly (though I think Fantasia has a couple more proggy numbers, but I don't know since I've never heard it). Anyway, after seeing descriptions of the music by a couple people that have those albums, I decided it wasn't worth the effort and expense to find them.
You'll also want to look for an album called "Escape to Horizon" by Chance. Roine plays lead on a couple tracks, and I guess it's a prog album.
I was able to purchase the download of Fantasia off of eMusic, so it was at least available in that format. Now finding a physical copy of it is probably an entirely different matter.
I like Paradox Hotel and all, but it's still one of my least preferred TFK albums. However, I really enjoy Adam & Eve and The Rainmaker, and I'd probably rank them somewhere in the middle.
Paradox Hotel is a great album, the only track that doesn't do anything for me is the one so many on here love, Monsters and Men. Adam & Eve remains my least favorite FK album, mainly because I don't care for either of the epics, and Starlight Man and Cosmic Circus irritate me. The rest is great though.
Rainmaker is actually a very solid album, and I'd probably place it somewhere in the middle of my FK listing (maybe bottom middle, but still).
Seconded on Paradox . . . Monsters and Men is the most skipped song on that CD for me.
It doesn't look like they have it any more. I bought it off of there back in 2009. I don't remember what it sounds like. I've not listened to it in quite some time. Sounds like a good reason to give it another listen.

What is it with you "Septic's" - Monsters and Men is a SUBLIME composition - and the finale/instrumental is a piece of genius composition with a Stolte RIPPER of a solo. How can you not like that eh?
Who's with me on this side of the pond? You got to be careful - one minute your skipping a Prog Rock Epic - the next your dressing up in your wife's clothing - pretending to be Celine Dion - Singing to a full length mirror with a hair-brush mike "Every night in my dreams........" AAAAAAAARGH............

No I have not - But I shall seek it out....I MUST HAVE THEM ALL.....
It's a good job I don't win the lottery - I don't know how I'd get through the 19456 CD's that I'd be ordering within 24 hours of getting the six numbers.....
Monsters & Men took quite a few listens to understand its greatness, more listens than I usually give to an epic but you guys proclaimed how tough of a nut it is to crack, but I think it's a wonderful track. I agree that that ending is epic, and the album in general has some of Roine's most powerful solos.

This is a strange one - because I absolutely loved it from listen 1. - the finale made my hair stand on end with it's brilliance and power...It was GOD that took me about five or six listens to appreciate it's natural beauty and start to lterally - DIG the garden....hoe hoe hoe

the fact that you have such a specific number up there leads me to believe that you have some massive wish list that has 19,456 CDs on it! also, is it physically possible to order that many CDs in 24 hours you'd probably shut down the internet.

Well, I've listened to Monster's & Men countless times since that album was released (I bought it shorty after release back in 2006), and it's never failed to bore me. It's not terrible (no FK song really is, IMO), but it just does nothing for me. If I had to guess, I'd say I've heard it at least 30 or 40 times since 2006. Roine's disappointment with how the song turned out is enough evidence for me that it's not one of their better songs Also, my own ears have told me this over and over again. Again, I don't mind listening to it, but like Tom I sometimes skip it because it just seems like a chore to get through before the really good tunes come on.
Garden Of Dreams only took about 3 plays through the entire thing to make me decide it was a masterpiece, but I knew I liked it on the first listen (just need to absorb the whole hour to decide it was their best "song" ever).
Genesis II, Steve Hackett streaming. Nad Sounds amazing! Production is awesome. Really looking forward to spending some time with this. Another new pic is Syd Arthur. Good Stuff.
Can't wait to buy this one. I bought the first one and felt ripped off as Hackett sang lead vocals on several tracks
and I found that to be unlistenable. Now he has actual singers on the songs and the track list is awesome. Also on the first one he appeared to be having a war with Tony Banks, as Hackett's versions on Revisited I had minimal keyboards on it. You can't have a Genesis tune if you omit the keyboards.....

Allow me to pop up here ever so subtly.
Barney my dear Lad,
You posted this exact rant a few score pages back. What is this preoccupation with men dressing up
in women's clothing???
Just wondering.
P.S. I do love your rants and general tenacity, keep it up my friend!
Aha - somebody was paying attention Maybe I should have visualised a trannie Barbara Streisand instead then! with the old hairbrush & big hair - I've dressed up in wimmins clothing a few times - I have done it to cook my Mrs and her (female) friends a meal - all to raise money for charity....And i can assure you - I am the most unconvincing female impersonator in the entire northern hemisphere on the account of being about 7 foot tall in high heels - and I have a very prominent adams apple and more hair on my body than a silverback gorilla.....Some men are closer to ladyboys than others....I have hair growing out of every bodily orifice - I have to shave my ears and pluck nose hairs twice a week!!!
^ I REALLY didn't need to read that. Now I can not unread it. The horror.
This one is an easy fix!
Just play that chicken farmer song video and after your mind will be clean as a whistle.
@Barney, you are a good sport my friend, if not a bit too descriptive, yet I suppose I started that whole thing.
Let that be a lesson to all your jokers here who don't play TFK - The Chicken Farmer song enough. We will send Barney over to your place to model skimpy lingerie and sing show tunes.

that brings up the issue of how much time to give a song/album/artist to click. i've been listening to the 'new' wilco that came out a year ago. i kind of like it, but it never blew me away. i think i liked the idea of it more than the actual music. however, put on Numbers and i was hooked immediately and had the stamina to get through it a few times. anyway, there's just nothing worse than buying a CD your excited about and have it suck.

Au contraire, skipping Monster & men intentionally - THAT is true horror...
I listened to disc 1 PH, last night (after listening to my new Nexus CD) - and M & M is quite simply the best track on that, CD by a helluva long way. Only Pioneers of aviation, Lucy had a dream and Mommy leave the Light on are anywhere near the quality expected after listening to M & M...
On M & M - I'm giving that track a top ten of all time prog endings (last minute) the solo piano classical style outtro is simply stunning...Oh and the Stolte Solo is in his top 10 also.....
if you don't all agree with me - I may post the pictures - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!
