Seems like I'm starting to revaluate Space Revolver after a long time of difficult relationship...! Some freaking good riffs and guitar works in there.. And Rumble Fish Twist is a masterpiece!! Shocked

Yeah, something I really miss about latter-day TFK is the ambient stuff.  The last few minutes of I Am The Sun Part 1 and parts of Garden of Dreams also come to mind.

Oh, and I Am The Sun (pt. 1 and 2) has the best melodies I've ever heard.

You guys should yell at all the reviewers who said those moments on those albums are filler or boring. I agree with you guys anyway, don't forget some ambient stuff on BITWOA too. Modern TFK has its moments too, how about the end One More Time? It's short though. The last couple of minutes of Transatlantic's" All Of The Above" is a great ambient section, one of my favorites.

Yeah, that one of the things missing for me on the last few FK albums, something that I really loved about the band.  The "filler" is usually awesome to my ears.  Every album had some until probably Adam & Eve (though even then I think it's still there in small doses worked into songs).  I think of them as interludes and palate cleansers for the more substantial tracks.  I miss them.  I absolutely love the ambient stuff in middle (more or less) of Garden Of Dreams.....I think it's perfect and works very well in the development of the piece.  I know some people don't like it and make their own edits removing those parts (and others), but I say it's their loss as the entire piece works so beautifully as a whole.

I don't edit songs for any band, so I'm with you on that. It's all or nothing for me.

I listened to SONE yesterday and enjoyed it immensely, the first time I'd heard it in about 6 months.  And you know darkshade the ending of One More Time (a fabulous track by the way) was one of several moments on the album that set the old goosebumps going.  Truly wonderful ending.

i've been listening to BoE and the new Neil Morse a lot.  Numbers really took it's time, but I'm really liking it.  SoNE is good.  One More Time is classic TFK.  love the key solo in the middle.

incidentally, i decided to listen to The Yes Album yesterday.  man, it sounded dated to me.  i guess i'm just so used to modern production.  Relayer even sounded a bit dated.  Going For the One sounded more timeless.  never thought there'd be a day i'd be tired of Yours is No Disgrace, but yesterday was the day.

That stupid bit in the middle of IATS - no need for it really - I love ambience - sort of string synths or mellotron - if IATS - had that instead of the jumbled up lyrics and daft noises - ala Madness or the Bonzo Dog Doohdah Band....it would have been improved somewhat. The waiting room - The lamb is a similar pointless noise jumble...Mind u the lamb has a few short "experiments" in music - mind u - any daft fooker could make those bits so thats why they are pointless....

Aaahhh, I do believe you're referring to The Waiting Room.  One of my favourite tracks from a brilliant album.

Same here Big smile

The Lamb took a long time for me to get my head around.  It's still not my favorite Genesis album, but it is a great album.  Brilliant, even.

As to I Am The Sun, I absolutely love the section he is talking about.  Though the "I left my heart in San Francisco" bit is a bit silly.  Love the sax during that section though.

One More Time has given me goosebumps on more than one occasion, usually during the last minute or two of the song. That might be a top 10 TFK song for me, top 20 definitely.

I know what you mean about The Yes Album, and some parts of Fragile too. But I don't think CTTE, Tales, or Relayer sounds dated (maybe Tales a little). GFTO is dated a little to me. However, I don't think it takes away from how well written that music is. Your ears have gotten accustomed to modern drum sounds, particularly the snare, as opposed to the 70s snare sound, which sounds "loose" to me, if that makes sense. Overall, I know how you feel about losing some interest in Yes, or Genesis, Camel, etc. once you get into all these modern albums. Some of them beat the 70s classics IMO, especially TFK, who sometimes are like Yes if they were a much more eclectic band.

^ I know that sensation. Sometimes I wish classics like CTTE or Selling England were (re)recorded with modern technology and equipment. For example, I absolutely love how Jordan Rudess covered some old prog classics like Tarkus, Dance on a Volcano, or Sound Chaser. You know, that fresh Kurzweil sound, the saturated guitar, the smashy drums... But after all, both recordings have their pros and cons and when I put on a Yes or Genesis record and hear that dynamic and genuine tube sound I usually say to me "yes, that's the way it is meant to be". TFK are a good compromise: vintage equipment in modern studios.

good points.  it was just really surprising to have that reaction.  the older i get, the more my pallet has changed.  if it's a good song, i really don't care what the production is like.  i could do without the compression these days though.  i've lately been having a difficult time getting through 'numbers' because there's so much high end.  i'm actually kind of glad to 'lose some interest' in the older bands.  i can't keep up.  TFK family is keeping me busy these days.  oh, and neil young too.  i quite like RPWL and am getting into some Hogarth era Marillion.  That tune 'invisible man' is killing me.  those dudes really take their time with the slow build.
