No, not Russian.

More or less inspiring for a neo-prog band.

I noticed after I posted that the Russian triangular letters were from WWII, so it was a red herring.

British?

Going away for five days. Your second clue made me think about Pinocchio/Collodi but I guess that would be too easy. I need some more clues, but the best thing would be if another PA member found the answer in the meantime.

No, not British.
I think I owe you some explanation of most clues when this person is identified.
Btw, I hope you'll have a nice time. In the meantime, I fear that this thread may need one or two bumps (even without ACR having a day off WinkTongue).

Borderline?

Yes, he was German.

The brightest of Lyra must have known something about him.

Ah ha!  That has a triangular link too... that suggests to me he was either a scientist or a mathematician.

So...

A scientist?

No, it is not Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve. But he was one of his contemporaries: he was born later and died earlier than this von Struve.

It was neither Bessel nor Lohrmann. He was not an astronomer or a scientist at all (@VdGK: I should have read your first post more carefully Embarrassed). I'm sorry if I have put you on the wrong tracks. On the other hand, this is becoming fun LOL.

He may not have seen any star at all during the greater part of his life.

Now that was a giveaway hint (not the last one, the one before). I know the Werner Herzog movie, and Kaspar Hauser certainly did not see any stars throughout most of his life.

Clap Well done, BaldFriede! I did not know the movie, but this was not the only giveaway hint: the line What was wood became alive was taken from a song by Suzanne Vega (btw, Vega is the name of the brightest star of the Lyra constellation): Wooden Horse (Caspar Hauser's Song).

Well, I don't know that Suzanne Vega song, so for me it was not a giveaway hint. But I saw the movie. It has a rather memorable scene at the beginning, in which Kaspar Hauser ignites one of his own farts Embarrassed.

Ok, new one: Female, deceased.

Oops, I confused two movies. The fart-igniting scene is from "Stroszek". But Stroszek is played by the same actor who played Kaspar Hauser, hence my confusion. The title character is in many ways similar to Kaspar Hauser, so it is easy to confuse the two movies.

I see that Stroszek is directed by Werner Herzog as well, and written for Bruno Schleinstein, the guy who played these two roles.

No, she did not.
Hint: Rock with a mysterious death (careful, the hint may be misleading)
