As the dark nights draw in, and it is far too cold to frequent the shed very often, i think a new Grey Room subject is in order - to set the "glass ball" rolling - Christmas -
is it overrated?
should it be "just for the kids" as i heard someone mutter coming out of the supermarket with their
trolley piled high with booze.
Are Christmas lights a waste of precious energy? In Oxford Street or any city should their use be restricted to just a few hours a day?
Do you have a neighbour who never fails to smother their house every bloomin' year with so many thousands of lights your street becomes a public spectacle?
Do you feel foolish dressing up as Father Christmas every year?
Do you still have a good excuse for coming back from the office party at four in the morning ? (did you managed to nail the Boss's secretary this time?).

I'm just starting to take down the halloween decorations today, I can't believe that the season is already here. Doesn't feel much like fall yet, just a few days ago I was baking in 90 degree weather thanks to that warm southern California sun. I'm looking foward to getting away for Christmas this year with my wife, We haven't been on a vacation since November, 2003. More than likely we'll end up in Laughlin Nevada for some relaxation and gambling.

Christmas is the only time of the year where it's cool to say I love you to the people you care about without it being considered as sentimental drivel...And it's just a cool time of the year! I have a 3 year old at home so being Father Christmas-Santa Claus is fun for me. And gaining weeight is justifiable . Plus I get to decorate the SHED !!!

Shame on you - I say it all the time to the people I care about most... mind you, that could be part of the reason I'm considered a drivelling sentimental idiot in some circles
As Vicky's birthday is on 9th December, we do nothing about Christmas until after that date; as a result, our preparations are always frantic; decorations are traditionally put up in our house to the soundtrack of Nick Cave's 'Murder Ballads'.
Although we've been together for over 18 years now, we actually managed our first Christmas together (just the 2 of us) last year, and it was absolutely fab; will have to do the family thing this year again, though - for a long time, a few of us used to avoid the family thing by getting away for a couple of days for Bachanalian overkill at Heavyfreight's house - all alcohol, blazing log fires, lazing & frequent showings of 'Lock Stock' & 'Harry Potter'... ah, memories.

Quite right, however I was intending it as a quote from the movie "Snatch".

I have spent two weeks of my spring on Kos for about the last ten years. Normally stay in Kamari Bay near Kefalos. I must confess that my Greek isn't very good as everyone there speaks such good English, but I know a few bits and pieces.

[QUOTE=mystic fred] ...any more "christmas" stories...?
No, sorry fred. I do have a shed story I've been saving, though. The other day I submitted a band bio to PA and one of the members was formerly in a group in Texas called Two Sheds. No Joke.

In Holland before Christmas we have Sinterklaas. It's a strange tradition. Sinterklaas and his horse and his helpers who are coloured black. It's a children party. They believe they get presents from Sinterklaas.
