If you used to like Death (@TLeirbag) and start listening to it more again it'll be a good gateway band to some of the stuff on offer.
Don't forgot there is plenty of instrumental stuff too if you can't stomach the vocals, like Canvas Solaris for example.

Anyway:

I thought you weren't a fan of that type of music. Anyway, I love it also! Excellent 5-star material!

Opeth is just amazing Tongue I am not a fan of that type of music but I also really love Riverside and Pain of Salvation. I find Dream Theater disgusting though.

Do you like any other bands in the tech/extreme prog metal section? I know you hate Death, but do any other names appeal to you?

I don't know other tech/extreme bands. Maybe I should re-listen to Death, it was my favourite band three or four years ago when I didn't know prog, and my tastes changed since then. Any suggestions, considering my tastes? Smile

Edge of Sanity is incredible, and would appeal to Opeth fans for sureSmile

Maria Dimension by
The Legendary Pink Dots

This is a band that needs more recognition!!!

Great psychedelia with a trademark brass section. Check out their impressive discography with 27 studio albums since 1982!!!
