Also, Shredders have apparently skipped so easily over the fact that an almost complete anagram of my name is Vander Raptor, so I'm immortalizing it in my sig.

I saw it, I just kept getting the spam message so I couldn't respond to it. That's pretty awesome. Loving the sig.

I actually do agree with you on the Music major, and I probably won't be a Philosophy major either. The thing that I'm most interested in that's also practical is probably technology. |
I am in computer science and I'm taking a philosophy class, it is interesting. I am learning the thinking type stuff and things like that.
|
Yeah, that can be pretty interesting. Even though I think some general education requirements are stupid, they can be kinda nice and help your knowledge like that.
|
It fulfilled a required credit, and it was a topic of interest to me, so I took it.
|
I took two Psychology classes to fulfill my required credits.
While I enjoy Philosophy, half of Philosophy professors are simply full of themselves and you end up getting nothing out of the class. I didn't want to take that risk, and I find Psychology more interesting anyway.
|
Yeah, I can see how easily that could happen, I think the author of my textbook is a bit full of himself.
|
Wouldn't surprise me.
College professors are certainly a breed of their own, let me tell you. Though you do run into some realistic hard-working people who really know their area and can teach it well. Not too often, but it occasionally happens that someone actually performs their educational position to their full potential.
|
I have an online class, my instructor is more interested in what we have to say, so I guess I'm lucky in that regard. Speaking of full potential, my Intro to Computers teacher seems to enjoy math so much more than the computer aspect of the class. It is funny to see how much more into the lesson he gets when he has to teach mathematics for a lesson.
|
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean there. I love it when a teacher is like, "Okay, so this is my least favorite part of the course". You can see any enthusiasm they had before drop off completely.

So, what should I review now. I need to do a negative review now- something 1 or 2 stars.

I've always worked for a small firm. Small firm = jack of all trades, master of none. Large firm = jack of one trade, master of that trade.

That works. For my co-op I was attracted more towards the smaller end (though more like small-medium in actuality). We'll see. Though my step-grandfather says it'd be good to get in with the Big 4 just for the experience and also to put it on my resume. I had an interview with Deloitte last semester. It turns out they wanted me to work 65 hours per week, so that would have meant I'd have to lose a semester of school, which would have ruined everything. That experience would have been worth it, but I still wouldn't have done it. Turns out I didn't end up getting it anyway. If I ever do that route, I want to just wait until I'm graduated and get a job. I don't want it to interrupt with my school, that's absurd. Co-ops usually are 25 hours a week.

Thanks guys, so if that's what the Major is, the next question is: can you achieve more than one Major in more disciplines while attending just one Faculty of the University? What you talk somehow implies that.

Yes, you can double or triple major. It just means you have to take more classes (credits) in order to graduate.
I know someone who is double majoring in Psychology and English; and another guy who is double majoring in Finance and Accounting.
You can also have a "minor" which doesn't require quite as many classes as a major, but it's preferred for people who don't want (or can't) to take the larger amount of classes required with a double or triple major.

Thanks again. That's very interesting - and completely different to what we have in Europe. Here, we need to pick from the beginning what exactly we want to study, and we're stuck with it untill the end of the affair. For example, if I want to study history, then I pick the Faculty of History at the University, and all the classes I'll need to take will be dedicated to this, directly or indirectly. [Theoretically it is possible to take classes from other Faculties, but this happens very rare, as the system was built on a different philosophy. I don't know what is required for being able to take such "external" classes. Anyway usually you don't need them because there are already lots of classes to attend, which make than the credits required.] If you want to study different things, you can enroll to a second University / Faculty; but that's not really a good idea because you'll need to skip classes in one place to attend classes at the other place. Basically the Faculties are "designed" to keep you fully busy so that you can't enroll to more except if you really want it and think you can handle it.

Hmmmm.. that is interesting. Over here we're actually required to study some different things, regardless of what we go into---it's under the general education requirements which make up all majors.
