Yeah - this sounds as a great idea!! I´m all for it, and I´ll be sure to bring the African drums, silly tobacco and Danish womenBig smile

Last time I went to a German Festival - I saw this band:

FLEISCH!!!
And yes there are lots of people not wearing clothes, although it very oftenly turns out to be the ones who are spaced out of their minds talking to beer cans in FinnishLOL
Fusion is like a modern version of Woodstock(I know, there will never be another one quite like it, but you probably catch my drift) - only with electronic music at the helm.

I agree, and I am not a politically correct type person anyway. And Guy's rant is off-key and sometimes annoying. In retrospect I actually find it boring, just about as much as his continous jokes about sex with household appliances in his "comedy".

Agreed.

You could take the alternative transaltion that Kraut means "Herb", and given that Herb is another word for "Weed" and now Krautrock becomes Weed-rock, a more laid back form of Acid-rock with no side-effects other than a tendancy to forget what you were listening to. But that would be a revisionist contrivance.

I have never heard that one ... and that is indeed interesting ... and how crazy that is, because a lot of the early stuff, was more than likely very intoxicated. Both Mani and Helmut Hattler even say so. And we're all pretty sure that AD1 was the same thing. And Damo has admitted being ... lucid!

PS: While I still think you're barking up the wrong tree on this all music is linked to the (so called) fine arts and other cerebally facinating (yawn) intellectual activities that it was allegedly surrounded by Pedro, what the genre is called has no effect on whether that is true or not - in pseudo science that is philosophy and the artisan-less art-artless art that is modern art, it does seem like more thought and effort was expended in imagining a snappy yet thought-provoking name for these "movements" and "schools" than was ever spent actually doing anything constructive. But what do I know.

I would disagree a slight bit here. And it is not difficult when you check out the instructors that were in the Berlin Conservatory of Music and how many students were involved, many of which we listen to and appreciate. But it's like saying that the music training that 3 members of CAN had is not important, and neither is where Agitation Free, and so many others also were ... that helped give rise to the whole thing. And again, it was not only in music, as we know and have seen that Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog and Rainer Fassbender were also around these people, as were a couple of playwrights, at the very least.

In many ways, the special that is in 6 parts out there, is an excellent primer on this history, and massive as it shows/explains some of these things, but hearing Jaki say that his instructor said ... "not repetitive enough" ... might give us pause to wonder why someone would say that ... and specially a "professor" ... fun? ... satire? ... not musical? ... but it does show ... a nice side to experimenting with sounds and music ... that I think was very vital to that time and place, AND many other places. And we will nto exactly agree what the differences are, but for me LA was drugs, SF was sex and trip, NY was hustling? (don't know what else to call it!), and London was ... probably a lot more intelligent and valuable in that they did not exactly ignore it, and I credit the likes of Melody Maker and their press with helping develop it all and give it some credibility ... the American version "Rolling Stone" was never about the music ... it was always about the star ... how Hollywood'ish this is!

But, again, Europe has hundreds of years of music history ... and study, and seeing it in the scope of it all, for me, is where its value lies ... and it is stronger than many well known "composers" of the 20th century and I say it's about time we give them credit for their work ... and all the bands that we love here, belong in that group, not just krautrock!

Yeah, this time, posting about it the way I did was not quite right ... but the intent was not to mis-interpret the comments or to mis-direct the readers and the appreciation of the music ... it was, actually, again, to elevate it. And I will always do that and continue to harp on that importance.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

While I would love to claim ownership of that one - it was collab Tuzvihar who invented it - it would be amusing if it were true, but alas it is not..

A Krautrock appreciation thread is not the place for this disucssion - perhaps in the coming weeks I will start a Blog where we can argue this at length (or you can - I'm not fussy).

Roman Bunka is one of the greatest guitar players out there; Friede and I are big fans.

here a few videos, taken from the movie "Dein Kopf ist ein schlafendes Auto", with Roman Bunka on guitar and oud, Gerald Luciano Hartwig on bass and percussion, and the late Freddy Setz on drums and percussion: in one of the videos Edgar Hofmann plays soprano sax too.
