I'm on board.  Dylan's already endorsed it, 'it's all good.'

Most corn farmers and domestic sugar producers would be nonexistence without federal spending / protection. That doesn't mean it owns them.

Though of course I disagree with subsidies, protection laws, and the obscene amount of spending in the military domain.

At least we agree on obscene spending in the military domain.  To compare corn farmers, subsidies and all, with one of the few industries we have the actually produces a trade surplus, is facetious.  Boeing makes good jets, or in the case of the 787, if they can actually get it transportinjg people, that are productive to the customers.  All I am saying is that the military $ subsidises the commercial, or at least keeps the wolf from the door during the bad times.  I make no judgement as to the value of that.

Whatever, if g'ment/ military Hummers would have somehow kept GM alive, without bailout, I'd be good with Hummers.

Not really. Your argument is companies which receive a substaintial amount of money from the government, so much so that their industry would significantly change without ti, are thereby owned by the government.

You must be prepared to admit the same about corn farmers.

That would make them more useful than any president/VP duo we've had in the last century.

I've heard your inappropriate fantasies about W.  Dead

You have expressed desire for Reagan Robert, and that's even worse... I mean, when he was an actor he was a stallion, but now? Necrophiliac-mental-illness-abusive perverted sick man!

I admit that the beer might make him look young again though...

Ah, but you see, his whole Star Wars plan was to build technology that would enable him to not only become young again, but turn into a female.

Science.  Geek

Oh, so that's how you built the connection between Amidala and Reagan in the Portman beauty contest thread... It's all geek fantasies...

Good one!  LOL

Okay, I admit to being somewhat ignorant as to agricultural subsidies.  Actually, I shouldn't be all that ignorant...I've seen those generic packages of Cheese and Rice, etc., and in fact have used them probably illicitly now and then, which is to say, the former daycare provider and kids could not consume it all.

Then I approve your being given more beer... The daughter is horrible... The mother is better looking and, besides, there must be a high degree of ego gratification when you're showing her some foreign policy the old interpersonal way...

This question came up in my office hours today. I'm pretty sure we've discussed it before on this forum, but I don't think in this thread.

Suppose Dr. Selfish invents a cure to AIDS in his basement laboratory. For some illogical reason, he decides to not share the formula for the vaccine with the public. Does the government have the right to forcibly take the vaccine from him and produce it for the good of humanity?

Biological we're programmed to find big round faces cute, but anyway, I'm not saying she's anything special, but she's doable, which is rare among the breed of demon which becomes a politician.

No, but I sure hope someone does, if it's against their rights or not. I fully support industrial espionage or plain old stealing in this case. It's that important.

And you just convinced me I support slavery, under very extreme circumstances. LOL

I have libertarian principles at times, but I am also pragmatic and utilitarian at times, and I'm not willing to let millions or billions of people die in order to preserve a lofty goal and have absolutist morals under 100% of all scenarios thinkable.

Actually, in your particular scenario, I don't think I would support the enslavement of doctors. The situation is not dire enough. If it was an epidemic or something where people required urgent care or there would be massive death, then yes. Although normal people would probably do most of the simple heath care, as in a post-apocalyptic scenario, if you will. I think times would change very fast for the libertarian ideology under such extreme circumstances.

Well that was the point of the question.  Wink  At what point do you believe it is acceptable to deprive an innocent citizen of his freedom?

By your own admission, you are okay with stealing too and think rights are something that may be ignored given certain circumstances.
