It's just something to listen to when you have a lot of work to do.  Good background music.

And Alex and David are forgetting something here:

Camel are a huge influence of Akerfeldt

Any Opeth fan who dislikes Camel are not true Opeth fans. Wink

Not the first time I've heard that argument. Wink

But you forget, James, that Akerfeldt took a copy of Ceux De Dehors with him when Opeth toured last year, and I like Univers Zero too. So that's good enough. Tongue

Edit: Have a good time, James.

I just realized I like Miles more than Coltrane (barely), but I now have more Coltrane material than Miles material.

I should rectify this.

Of the ones I listened to yesterday, Get Up With It was the best.

Also check out Filles de Kilimanjaro.

I have Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew, and they were both OK.  I imagine that they were pretty amazing when they first came out in comparison to everything that was out at the time, but they have all been copied since then and thus they didn't come across as amazing to me as they should have.  This is probably a similar reaction that many of the youngsters have when they listen to the senior prog bands for the first time.  They have already heard it all before with the modern bands, so it doesn't sound as amazing as they did to the old timers who heard it when it is new and fresh and thus it also carries nostalgia with it.

Those are two of the ones I want to hear next.

I'd really like to get everything from his electric period and anything with Coltrane on it for now. I figure I'll have a pretty healthy Miles collection after that,

Depends really. Miles has such an extensive discography that you really have to check out several of his albums from various periods. I will admit though that 1)Those are his two most popular albums and 2) I don't think tons of Miles fits your tastes, Scott.

Although I would have been in the same boat as you if you had asked me about Miles 2 years ago or so.

Some money to spare....contemplating food or buying a CD

Itsy just posted epic win.

Although I still need to hear that album. Apparently it's part of some people's holy grail of jazz.

That's because it's the best jazz album I've ever heard.
