It interests me that King Crimson only made 2 good albums and youngsta's just go nuts w hen they find KC. ITCOTCK's 21st CSM is one of the best early defining songs of prog rock no doubt. After Greg Lake left to form ELP the band struggled and its best come back was LTIA, not a masterpiece by any stretch but very good. Robert Fripp as a leader and solo artist has always been a failure. His work with Brian Eno's Another Green World band was probably his best contribution after ITCOTCK. With Lake or Eno's leadership they were able to use him effectively in band support roles. On his own he has proven to be an egotistical moron. I find the craze interesting and curious.

I'd say everything they did in the 70's is pretty much essential. I haven't heard all of their latter albums yet, but I'm getting convinced that King Crimson is one of the few bands who have never released an unimpressive album.

I disagree. I think Crimson has only made 2 albums that are less than spectacular, in Three of a Perfect Pair and Islands. I greatly enjoy all of their albums. Robert Fripp can be fairly egotistical, but I don't think it negatively effects the music.
