WHOA! "One Whole Half" is a bonus track on The Rainmaker, which is on Karmakanic's debut album, though it's a different version. Reminds me of a Jonas Hellborg track, with some John Scofield influence there too.

I never meant to portray dislike for Roine's playing, i've just felt indifferent after his solos or rhythm methods.
That solo was good though, thoughtfully unique.

Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.

Stolte - has produced some of my all-time favourite guitar solo's - Very indulgent solo's indeed - make the hair stand up on the back of your neck...but the keyboard solo's.....Banks, Emerson, Wakeman, Badens and Orford have all produced far superior keyboard solos....and my all time favourite Hammond organ solo...Take a Bow Mr Dave Greenslade....Drum folk....the slow intro with mellotron which then has the most atmospheric Hammond solo ever...acemans...

I was pondering about the Flowerkings and the wonder..... that from the mid nineties this swedish outfit dared to produce symphonic prog long and indulgent......Then I was looking at the reviews on Topographic Oceans by Yes....Do FK's fan-base think that the original - 4 Epic offering is the benchmark that all over-indulgent symphonic prog could be judged against? I think that TFTO is only marginally inferior to CTTE and GFTO and the equal of Relayer......A definate five star effort and masterpiece....who's with me?

I don't know what connection between FK and Yes you want to demonstrate. But to me CTTE is better, than TFTO, and i am a FK's fan. Is this clear?

I'm not sure what connection he was trying to make either, but CTTE, Relayer AND Fragile are superior to Tales.

Tales is good, but meanders way too much to be considered as good as Relayer, Close to the Edge, The Yes Album or Fragile, IMO.

It would be interesting to see TFK take a crack at having an album full of nothing but 20 minute plus epics.  Flower Power could have been their Tales had it just been Garden of Dreams and nothing else.

Tales is a masterpiece. Markedly inferior to CttE, but so is every other album ever. Tales is their second-best, in my opinion.

I didn't think you were - but you implied that his playing was generic, which was what I took issue with. If it doesn't thrill you, though, then that's fine.

I definately think `Garden of Dreams' and `Flower Power' should have been released as individual albums, I'm pretty sure Roine has mentioned that himself a while back?

Now that I look at it on my Ipod, I've got them both listed as two different albums! I loved every bit of the original double, though, and it was the first album from them I bought, so it was a bit of a risk! Worked out well though!

I agree that disc 1 of Flower Power should have been its own album, titled "Garden of Dreams".

But then what to do with the remainder of disc 2?

---------------------

Also, I listened to the bonus tracks for The Rainmaker, and all I can say is.... Why were they not included in the actual album?????? Aside from the last one, they're better than half the songs on The Rainmaker.

Yes, I named the first disc `Garden Of Dreams' on my Ipod, while the other I called `Flower Power'!

When I first got it, I really dismissed the second disc because `Garden' was so good, then after digging it out a year or so later and spinning disc 2 again, I was shocked that it was almost just as good! Very memorable, lots of great melodies and thoughtful lyrics. I really like that `Magic Pie' song from Hasse too!

The real question I wonder now is if the studio `Garden' is better than the live one on the `Meet The Flower Kings' DVD.....mate, Roine's solo at the finale of the first half is beautiful! :)

Darkshade, kudos to you for an excellent review of BoE Clap.  Even better seen as you're a collab Wink.

Whilst the weekend brings a monsoon of biblical proportions to the UK (was it something you said Barney?) it also provides an opportunity for me to listen to the new album a couple of times more.

Well I for one absolutely love TFTO.  My favourite Yes album is GFTO by some distance but TFTO is second.  CTTE is probably third but I'm really not that mad on Relayer.  Gates of Delirium (anothe GoD to go with Garden of Dreams!!) is brilliant but the live version from Yesshows is miles miles better, and one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.  I really don't care that much for the two shorter tracks on Relayer.

Fragile has some good pieces but the "solo" tracks just make the album too bitty for me and as such one where the skip button comes into it's own.  That's not one of my favourites either.  The Yes Album is great with Howe really at his best there, and I've always liked Drama a lot too.  Tormato has it's moments and I was surprisingly impressed by Keystudio.  Not heard the latest one, would anybody recommend it?.

Finally giving Wheel of Life a listen. I like it a lot. But it's not in the same league as Who's the Boss and Perfect World.

"Do U Tango?" is nuts.

There's definitely a difference in the feel of the first 2 Karmakanic albums, versus the latest 2 Karmakanic albums. I like both, and I think Wheel of Life is their second best album behind Who's the Boss In the Factory? which is the best. I like In A Perfect World, there's good stuff there; but doesn't beat the last two before it.

I'm a big fan of Wheel of Life, "Alex in Paradise" is probably my favorite Karmakanic song.

odd topic for TFK thread but..... I'm with you on Fragile. It sounds transitional to me - not as guitar oriented as The Yes Album but not yet benefiting from Rick Wakeman's immense talent to the fullest extent. Not a huge fan of TFTO though. it's ok (first two tracks are pretty good but I almost never listen to the 2nd disc.)

As for Fly From Here.. it's not bad but not on the same level as TFK or Yes' earlier period (not even as good as the studio tracks from Keys)

Yep, agree with Wjohnd, `Fly From Here' is not too bad. It's all very superficially listenable. Nothing truly challenging or memorable, but very pleasant and easy to listen to, something to put on in the background and not have to pay too much attention to. OK, so it borders on `old man' prog a little, but I don't think anyone would have expected it to be more than that.

Beautiful cover, though! Well worth snapping up the vinyl copy for that alone.

Oh, and of course, considering some write them off as being nothing more than a Yes clone, the new Flower Kings album wipes the floor with `Fly From Here' on every conceivable level lol!
