Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 Part One (6 episodes)
Do we need more of this stuff, probably not in truth. This spin off from the main series seems to exist mainly to give British actor Lenny White (''Morgan'') something to do. He's brilliant and has been carrying the show for a while. Thankfully he's still in it so I binged the 6 episodes (and have also watched the 2 episodes of Part Two that are available). It does something though that I don't like , jumps 7 years so Morgan's daughter (also called 'Morgan') can be old enough to be significant. This makes it feel very unreal to me and most of the emotional scenes don't land well because too much story has come and gone. 6/10

Gen-V (8 episodes)
For those not well versed with The Boys, this spin off is about the generation of young adults who have been given the drug 'V' quite widely. This produces random 'super powers' some of which are effective and some just merely entertainment value it seems. This campus based drama draws on all sorts of teen horror and frat pack type movies for much of its ideas. It's incredibly well done and has the high production values of The Boys. Thankfully they don't spare the gore or the weird humour that profligates the main show and maybe even take it up a further notch. Pure full on entertainment. 8.5/10

Netflix made too much of a habit of not renewing shows I really enjoyed instead conectrating on reality TV, the boring and often innacurate The Crown and giving shedloads of money to Harry and Meghan. It's a real shame. Once the brilliant Ozark finished it was downhill all the way imo. |

Lockwood & Co Set in an alternate 1980s England, events take place 50 years after "The Problem". Initially not much is given away about The Problem but it has caused ghosts and spirits to become prevalent, necessitating the need for "special" agents to tackle them. The story starts when a young girl starts her training to become a hunter. When things go wrong she moves to The Smoke and joins a brand new agency called Lockwood & Co. I wasn't giving this much hope and assumed it was a YA show. But it's surprisingly good and really well made with great action scenes and a decent story (it's based on a book series which gives it chance). The music is top notch with lots of 80s goth music used - in episode 1 there were 2 Bauhaus songs and some Cure too - which is rather nice. It's getting great ratings too which is why the reason Netflix has not renewed a second series is baffling (they didn't market it at all either). 9/10 so far.
P.S. The bully boy from Invasion is in it too lol.

A fact about the bully, Monty, in Invasion. The actor (Paddy Holland) is in fact the younger brother of Tom Holland. No family resemblance there.

have to admit that the school bully turnaround was very odd although they did go into his back story a bit to explain how he became a bully. Perhaps a bit far fetched on that change in personality to someone who now was giving a f**k but I'm prepared to go with it. I let a lot of TV wash over me, not big on story lines having to make sense. The pen pushers can make anything happen. I didn't get that worried about how GOT finished for instance. Mother of Dragons goes psycho and Bran ends up as king. Tad silly but even after watching a second time it didn't spoil it for me.

I've just completed season 2 as well. I normally agree with your assessments but alas not this time. Series 2 was quite poor and I much preferred the first season. SE02 appears to have a larger budget, but a weaker script in my opinion. All the characters from season 1 have returned, which I was very surprised at - even the school bully is here (though he seems nice now). Some tenuous links seem to appear from nowhere and these are used to drive the story, which is understandable I suppose, but annoying nonetheless. I generally love sci-fi but sadly these unlikeable characters make the wildest, most ridiculous decisions based on situations that are totally unbelievable. There is more action though, but this is one of the reasons I liked season 1 better - it was purely about the characters, now it's just a weak, absurd script and story. 4/10

Invasion S2 (10 episodes)
Season 1 was generally poorly reviewed and seemed to be heavily constricted by a tighter budget than say Apple's other big sci-fi show Foundation. Season 2 is much more like it and actually delivers some sci-fi action with mostly the same characters. Perhaps comes off the rails slightly towards the end of S2 as they move towards a potential S3 (presumably). Overall a pretty decent watch. Apple is rapidly becoming the home of sci-fi. Hopefully they keep it up and don't go the same way as Netflix. 8/10

Billions S7
So this behemoth of a TV series finally ended with episode 12 of Season 7. No spoilers but I enjoyed it all the way to the end with the parallel Trump story line (''Mike Prince'' here) being the reason it continued for so long (that and Damian Lewis having to exit the series for a while to be with his terminally ill wife) . It peaked around Season 3-4 but the great characters and fantastic writing meant it had a good reason to exist. Final Season 8/10 (overall 9/10)

Recently watched the mini-series entitled John Carpenter's Suburban Screams (2023). The supposedly true events depicted there, were not that interesting for me. Yet, Carpenter's masterful directing and lots of scenes in there were really great. Overall, a 7.5/10.

Finished series 2 of The Wheel of Time. Looks great but a weak and confusing script and story lets it down a lot. 5/10

I finished watching The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix, which is chock-a-block full of Edgar Allan Poe references. I enjoyed it very much and think Mike Flanagan is a treasure (I most especially loved Midnight Mass). I'm now starting on Bodies on Netflix.

High Desert 8 episodes
This 'black comedy' from Ben Stiller is for me quite nasty and distasteful at times. The wonderful Patricia Arquette is the main reason for watching but mostly its incoherent and painfully lacking even the germ of an idea. 4/10

thanks, forgot that re Rolf Harris. Yeah I think that a lot of people will avoid watching it and there is some horrible stuff for sure. |

^ Yes, it looks a fascinating TV show - but I doubt I'll watch it. I know enough of the facts that it would be too hard a watch for me. A slight correction if I may regarding Rolf Harris: he was released in 2017 and died 10 May 23.
