I mean, after Sky Moves Sideways, it's all, erm, competent, but it doesn't sound original at all. Radiohead did it sooner, Pink Floyd did it with a much more practiced and visionary guitar player, Beatles could put Wilson in the vocal + arrangement doghouse. What use do I have of a fourth rate alternative rock band with a guy who can hardly play piano, who has the vocal expressive capacity of a decaying popcorn machine, with lyrical value that makes me sick, and an incessant desire to add as many hokey and unnecessary sound effects as possible that seem to have no conceptual relevance, and seems to think that making longer songs will make folks think he's smarter than he really is? Oh, and did I forget how all the melodies, no matter how many times I listen to them, don't stick in my head?

I listened to Piano Lessons seven times in the past three days. I still can't remember a single goddamn hook. But I could recall how Tiamat's Cold Seed goes after one listen.

Both of PT's best albums ended here. So does this conversation.

I'd rather listen to Katy Perry than the PT debut.

Opeth! Hey! One of my favorite new bands! Don't like Still Life much at all, but Blackwater Park, Damnation, and Ghost Reveries? Me first and a Gimmie gimmie!

F**k yeah bro, I've read your reviews, at least you keep more objective than me. I'm well aboard the road to fandom.

Yeah Andy, September I can't wait to see Opeth! Finally.

Indeed, I can never review Opeth...it ends up being a 600 word jizz fest.

Night was pretty funny. Didn't get drunk or get some but me + 3 other good friends spent ~2 hours talking anonymously on the phone to this slut from school while under the codename "The Masked One".

Well, Still Life is fine. I'd take it over nearly every PT album. I'd put it on equal ground with VDGG's Still Life, but I don't care about it when compared to BWP - because it seems purposely complicated, and I hate complicated music that has melodies the band used over and over again on the last several albums. That mammoth riff to Baying of the Hounds? That sh*t's idiosyncratic, but half their guitar work on all their albums pre-2000? Seems to me an eight year old could've written them.
