Mediocre by what standards? I think what you meant to say was "mainstream". And yes, mainstream bands can be very good at their thing while live.

I haven't heard enough of his stuff to say for sure that he isn't my thing (like with the Beatles), so I suppose I don't know. I just don't like what I have heard; and haven't had the motivation to hear anything else.
