I could record the audio using Audacity, I suppose.
That's a slow process though. It's a 75 minute DVD and I think there's a limit on Audacity for recording length. I'd prefer to rip the audio, it'd be quicker and probably better quality.

I don't know what you could use to just get the audio. In the past if I've made cd versions of DVDs then I use a combination of Handbrake to rip and cubase to strip audio and cut into songs instead of one giant chunk. but I do have an mp3 version of the "Arriving Somewhere" dvd

I want an MP3 version of the HC DVD. I don't how legal it is, mind you. Also I don't know what the quality would be like.
Audacity uses Line-In, so I could just record the sound. It means cutting the tracks up at a later date though.

I just told you how to do it and I can tell you that the way I did it there's no loss in quality because it was a strait transfer. If you want to make an external recording then it's going to sound hollow. Does Audacity have a video layer? If so you can import the rip into there and simply delete the video

Yes, there's no avoiding having to cut up the tracks.
And to my knowledge it would be legal if you don't distribute it.

James, everything has to be on the internet, otherwise the system falls apart. |
Not at all. Your idea of the Internet is skewed. It would not fall apart. Sure, you can buy MP3s but as far as I know, you cannot buy the HC box as MP3s. That means some daft get has uploaded said box onto the Internet illegally. I don't mind OOP stuff being online. That's completely fine.

Not sure. I shall have to check the literature.

I tried to take that position in the "Downloading" thread - but Dean and Ivan weren't thrilled

As long as it IS OOP.
Some stuff isn't.
Plus where do you draw the line with something like that "alternative" version of IPoL. It's OOP and I'm sure Cutler et al., don't really want people hearing it, otherwise they'd sell it in that form. Yet it's still illegal, 'cause there is a chance of still finding a copy of it.

Oh and nice to see you changed the titles of CD 2 of Trondheim.
My copy wanted to put them as Trondheim II - 1
That didn't fit CD 1 which had them as Trondheim I: 1
So I changed CD 2s titles to match.

I entered all the titles of every disc in the box by hand. My sound extractor software couldn't grab any titles.

Ah. No doubt some of your title will differ to mine then. Gosh, Henry Cow's entry on last.fm will be full of weird combinations of track title! And I've just finished the last CD. Only the DVD to go now. I shall play it later when I won't get interrupted. It's 75 minutes and my parents are in, which means definite interruption.

Actually, I'm too eager... I may give it a sneak preview.
