At that LA show, I remember being right next to the speakers that were carrying Rudess' channel. Man, he plays LOUD as hell.

I wear ear plugs at gigs and band rehearsal. John Petrucci's guitar sounded kinda muddy without ear plugs, when I put them in everything was more clear sounding.

I don't, my ears are getting killed. I should get some. Both times I saw them Petrucci was perfect

When jamming or the like, I always wear ear plugs. At concert - when my ears get tired. We've had this discussion before, Harry. I think it's the exact opposite. You miss out the brilliance of the solos and 90% of the sounds the crowd makes.

I couldn't have worn earplugs at the Rush concert this year. It would've absolutely killed me if I'd had to. One more for good measure, and the best new one I've seen in awhile :

I miss out on the excessive high frequencies coming out of the monitors that kill your ears and make the sound less clear. I'm never willing to get hearing damage for the sake of apparent perceived "extra brilliance". Not worth it IMO. My sister is only 24 years old and already has fairly bad hearing damage, I don't wanna end up like that too.
