Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I have yet to review any of Genesis's albums, but the only reason I haven't so far is, with them being my favourite band of all time, it is very hard to be objective. Nevertheless, I agree, like most fans, that the fairy tale ended with the disappearance of Hackett. However, I have always felt that, of all the post-Hackett albums, the only one in any way reminiscent of their earlier work, is DUKE. This is actually a great album, just a pity Hackett isn't there to add his genius to it. Not a bad track on this as far as I am concerned. Ok, there are a couple of poppyish songs, but most of it harks back in tone, and somewhat in feel, to their glory days. When I came out I was made up on playing it, and played it incessantly for quite a few weeks. It gave me hope the band were back on track. Sadly, with Abacab, my hopes came to nought. Still, Duke is the one album I would recommend to lovers of classic Genesis.

ATTWT. Some of Collins' best drumming, I ve always felt....Even Rutherford's solo on 'Burning Rope' has a great feel to it.
Come to think of it, it is probably second in their entire catalog for me, behind only TLLDOB. Call me crazy

It has to be 'ATTWT' for me- I really love it; every song is extremely strong in quality, and some are plain beautiful- 'Many Too Many', 'Undertow', 'Follow You Follow Me' and 'Snowbound', and some great prog songs like 'Burning Rope', 'The Lady Lies' and 'Deep In The Motherlode'. A classic in my opinion.

Calling All Stations is not Genesis. I can't even believe they used the Genesis
name for that heap of complete garbage. Long live Gabriel and Hackett
(though I can understand that Duke was a decent album.)

Duke has some decent songs, but still, nothing matches the brilliance of Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

Man Ą. Itīs hard to decide. Duke is probably the most consistent of them. Still, there are great songs in every album. "Mama", "Home by the sea", "Tonight", "The brazilian", "Abacab", "Fading lights", "Driving the last spike", "Dreaming while you sleep", "Domino", "Dodo", "Alien afternoon", "There must be some other way", "Deep in the motherlode" (And many more from "And then there were three").....There really are many songs I fully enjoy. Even "Man on the corner" and "Land of confusion". They all still have that "implicit energy" and passion from the old days. They may not have the same creativity nor the same textures or originality. But the passion and that capability of transmiting emotions in that way only Genesis do, is still there.
If I was sent to a 3 years trip to Mars and could take only one of these albums, Iīd choose......YeahĄ, "Duke". Itīs very fresh and has energy throughout. Even, the balads and pop songs are not as conventional and repetitive as "Invisible touch" or others.
"And then there were three" is the same case as "Duke"....most people dislike it. But I think they dislike it more because of itīs image than for the music itself. The cover is horrible, the name is probably worse and the fact that Hackett is not there makes people think is a bad album. However, there is no single song in this album that you can call ugly or bad. You may say itīs poppier and simplier (the same you could say about "I know what I like) but these songs are very entertaining and ....I donīt know, ...nice, inspired and there are also many good instrumental moments too. However, the atmosphere in this album is not as fresh as "Dukeīs" and that makes of listening to "Duke" a more enjoyable moment.

for me, it's definitely "and then there were three". there are impressive and inspiring ballads, like "many too many", "snowbound". and there are wonderful prog songs, especially "burning rope". there are also many great moments, including solos. plus collins' sophisticated drumming.

They all suck -- as does your poll.
You forced me to pick this choice you hobbit!
Since I don't love them all or any of them as one either...

Went for Duke - the halfway pop/prog epic of the band's career.

Voted ATTWT without doubts, this one still has the old vibe of the band I think. The songs are shorter than before but it's still progressive rock, I don't have the feeling their music was simplefied when compared to previous records. Listening to Abacab, I do have this feeling. Hackett isn't there anymore but the gap is filled with dozen keyboards and Mike's twelve string. Every track has its own charm and maybe the hitsingle is the only one that bores me to death. "Duke" is also pretty decent but not more than that, on this album I do miss Steve Hackett's playing. From Abacab on each album consisted for the 1/2 part (even up to 3/4 for Genesis) of pop music but there still were some great tracks. "Three sides live" was another pure progressive effort that was awesome ! Maybe it should have been mentioned on the poll.

Three Sides Live is awesome !! I remember getting it back in 1983 before I discovered the Gabriel-era. If this album was listed then it would get my vote.
