Cape May? Certainly. I know much of the shore in Atlantic County is being evacuated. That needs to be done, the storm is making 40+ foot waves, imagine what that'll do the shore. Depending on where the eye goes the storm could add it's own tide to it! That is routine I'm sure, they want to get people away from there ASAP.

I'm not familiar with your area but you say the river can reach that Fort Mott? They are probably being evacuated for flood risk and it's happening now to make sure it can be done orderly. I'd imagine you're fine though. No way the river can reach 25 miles.

Still, we're gunna have a bad weekend manLOL It will be very windy and lots of rain, probably power outages, trees down. I'm fearful for New England, if Irene picks up speed it could be a repeat of the 1938 storm that wrecked New England

I'm scheduled to work Saturday night Shocked but there is a good chance I will not be going. However, I am a little worried, considering the wind speeds we're going to be getting. I'm going to enjoy Friday as much as possible.

People call me and say......"Well if you don't feel save,....you can come to my house in Millville or Vineland. What;s the difference? We are all inland. Heavy wind, power outage, and the falling of trees is what we have to be concerned with in all inland towns during this storm. If I went to the high school for this so called shelter,...I would have to leave my P.A. system, instruments, recording studio etc....blah, blah, at my house .....I live in a 3 story house built in the 1700's and the windows are shabby....so perhaps we can stay in the upstairs hallway with a lit candle and a bag of food. I f a tree slams into our house I would rather be here when it happens...then behind brick walls of the high school. Besides maybe this would be an excuse for my slumlord to fix the place up?LOL

Light the candles.........stay in the hallway........listen to music through a battery operated boom box.......eat, read, and tell stories about "Madhorse Farms' ......instead of listening to sensational news reports given by well groomed middle aged geeks and blonde hair bimbos who want their skirt lifted.

I heard earlier it was being downgraded to a 2 but now it seems that's not the case.  Hmm.

I hope all you lovely people and your homes and families are fine after all this.

I remember the storms in England in about 1987/88 (forget the year) and I got sent home from school because the roof was blowing off the school.

Very difficult to walk in too.

So try and get to a safe place as soon as you can, as you don't want to be stuck in it when it does hit!

Oh, that's good news then.

I did hear that earlier but then the weatherman chap seemed to say it wasn't.

I thought it was expected to strengthen to a 3 today.

What the hell does this hurricane think it is, the economy? Tongue

On a brighter note, since this thing decided to take a pass on Floridia, we're going on a road trip to visit my sister tomorrow. Big smile  Going to visit the new Salavador Dali museum. Big smileBig smile

Much like many things, this is all likely blown out of all proportion.  I do hope so.

I assumed that it was, but it will still probably be very unfortunate for those on the coast regardless of how much this thing dies.

I would be very happy if this turned into a tropical storm. We had one 2 or 3 years ago, and while it was kinda bad for a couple days, there wasn't much damage, save for a couple trees that fell.

Kind of hoping my power gets knocked out for a day or two.

My basement will probably be toast, just hope nothing worse than that happens.  But I have plenty of beer, so I'm ready to ride it out.  Tongue

I wouldn't mind a forced break from computer/electronics for a couple days, minus my iPod

I just picked up 2 extra candles, 3 ice bags and some extra food in case of outage. It's a jungle out there. Traffic jams in the least expected places. I drove a few miles out of my way to avoid them. I have 3 kids age 5,8, and 10 and they can't stand traffic jams. I went to the Shoprite and the employees were disgusted. Their plate is certainly full today. The usual vulgar attitude from pedestrians and drivers in parking lots. They really put on a circus show for you when the public feels panic from a weather prediction. People pushing and shoving. It's very entertaining. The way people of the south adapt to severe storms easily and in the north people are running around looking rather frazzled. So extreme.

Hmm massive drinking and copious candle use for illumination. This will be a good combo.
