I see where I could agree that The Mars Volta are one of the more "progressive" (i.e., innovative) bands of the past decade. But for my personal list, they just didn't make it.

Everyone's tastes are very far removed from yours.  Wink

His list sounds good to me. LOL

Fair enough - I think we're all reacting to the title "The Top 20".  Wink

Yea,
A better title would have been "My Top 20."

Pretty good list.  I would add some albums from the Tangent, The Flower Kings,  IQ's Frequency, and Doomsday Afternoon. Snow and Testimony are a little too high up for me but it is still a nice mention.
Just give it all an hour by the concrete lake.

I certianly do like that Jean Louis album.  I was even listening to it earlier today. I also should have mentioned Ahvak.

FYI - I though I'd share with you all here in the forum what I wrote on my blog. Along with other topics on my blog (mostly in the field of theology), I try to introduce people to the greatest music in the world- Prog. So, please keep that in mind. I have about 2,000 readers per month, and through my years of blogging I've been able to "convert" a few people to Prog (how's THAT for a play on words!).

There we are in major disagreement.  I don't believe that Prog is the greatest music in the world  (oh me of little faith).

The main issue I have with the list is the inclusion of Muse's worst album but at least there is In Absentia and One in there which I do like.

And I don't consider In Absentia a prog album at all.

That's cool - and hopefully a bunch of us have in turn exposed you to some new artists that are worth exploring.  Thumbs Up

Really, this is the raison-d'etre of the site IMO.

I am not at all a fan of people making a thread to link to their blog entry. It reeks of site-whoring that you made us give you pageviews instead of just cut-pasting what you wrote to the OP.

As for the list, uh...It's not to my taste

I find this list severely...limited.  Maybe that's because no fewer than 8 out of the 20 albums listed are Neal Morse or Steven Wilson related.

But this is what bothers me the most, you even compare two of the other entries to PT. It really hits the credibility when it seems so fanboy-ish. (and Porcupine Tree did not single-handedly redefine prog rock)
if you own a sodastream i hate you

Rest assured, that was not my intention. I don't need any more "pageviews" (why on earth would I care about that?). I simply thought I'd share.
I didn't realize this was such a contentious forum.
